Why do so many people have so much against Jehovah's Witnesses? Personally I've never seen a JW do anything wrong except stand up for what they believe in. People do that all the time, so what makes JW's so diffrent? Why don't people just listen to there message first and then make a conclusion. I mean people use to believe that JW's didn't believe in Jesus but then Jw's came out with the Follow the Christ district convention campaign. So why don't people just give them a chance and listen to them and not to the lies that others tell.
Opinions please. And some feedback from JW's.

Do you think it is ok that children are allowed to die because they can't have a life saving blood transfusion? And if there is a court order against the parents, the elders try to sneak the sick child out of the hospital? If the parents want to save their child from dying they are kicked out.

Do you think it's ok that if someone leaves this cult and their parents, siblings, spouses or children that are in it have to cut all contact?

Do you think it is ok that if your mother were to leave the JW but you still were in it and she dies you wouldn't be allowed to attend her funeral?

Do you think it's ok to suggest that there are only 144 places and everyone else has to stay dead? And that non- believers that might be good decent people but just because they don't belong to JW they are supposed to be on the end of a vengeful attack by God?

Do you think that it is ok for a group of men in a building in NY to control millions of peoples lives?

JWs can't even read the bible without that watchtower booklet telling you how to read it. You cannont even question what you are taught. Does this make sense to a normal thinking person that you are not allowed to think for yourself, read or learn anything that they have not told you?

Perhaps if you were to read up about this cult you wouldn't be feeling sorry for them you would be feeling sorry for the victims of this cult!

Edit: You want to hear from JWs or people that know of them..well how about ones that have been in the JWs for years. They would know better than you or I. I strongly suggest since you are thinking about joining you read up about what you are getting yourself into and I mean from other sources other than just them.

There are probably many reasons why people don't like Jehovah's Witnesses, a good percentage of those reasons are more than likely based on misconceptions, or outright lies that are spread about us. As I'm sure you know, prejudice is often due to ignorance.

Jesus said his followers would be hated (Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:9, Luke 21:17, John 15:21) Jehovah's Witnesses try very hard to live up to Jesus standards and be his followers, which can make us unpopular by some. People often misunderstand our zeal, viewing our preaching as “aggressive proselytizing.” We are neutral toward the politics and wars of the nations, and sometimes this has been wrongly taken to mean that Witnesses are disloyal citizens.

I believe, people don't like change. They don't like it when they have believed for a long time that they can do whatever they please as long as they "accept Jesus in their heart", then they have someone show them from the Bible that they have to change their thinking and their way of life in order to be pleasing to God. You know the old saying "ignorance is bliss." Sometimes people don't realize they are doing something wrong until they view someone else's actions. Jehovah's Witnesses remind them daily by their conduct as well as their preaching work that more is required than just 'church on Sunday'.

First, anyone who hates Mormons or Jehovahs are bogus.

I took time to visit with 2 members of the Jehovah Witnesses every Thursday for a year. They presented to me their belief system that to me did not make sense.
The only thing we were able to agree on is that God is the true God of the universe.

However, they did not recognize the Holy Spirit as a person. They described Him as an "it" and compared "it" to electricity.

The Book of Acts clearly shows us the Holy Spirit's humanlike attributes. He walks, he talks, he eats, he has God's Authority, etc.

Also, they do not recognize Jesus as God or a god of any kind. They tell me he was just a good preacher.

I told them it stated that Jesus was God even in their New World Translation. They insisted no it was not, and they were more than adament., Then I showed them out of their own book:
John 1:1 (Christian NIV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the word became flesh and dwelt among us. (Jesus Christ)

(New World Translation JW)
1 In the beginning was the word. The word was with God and the word WAS A GOD....

So I asked them, was Jesus a God or not? If Jesus was a God, and he is the son of God, does this not also make him the same God you worship as he says and does the works of God?

Their jaws hit the floor. Speechless, they quietly stood up and made their way to the door. I told them they didnt have to go and I told them they were welcome back anytime. They never returned.

It seemed to me that they discovered the begining of many truths that the JW church never told them...

The truth is in the Holy bible and no where else.
The bible warns us that "If someone preaches to you another Gospel of Jesus Christ, let them be cursed."

True Christians don't hate anyone, they just know the truth and would like to share it with others so they are not cursed, and so that they will see the riches of Heaven with them some day.

Even though JW's claim they believe in Jesus Christ it is false. They do not believe in the Holy Bible and have to add the teachings of their supplemental bible. They are sincere and very knowledgeable about refuting Biblical common christian beliefs. Since most Christians know almost nothing of the scriptures the JW's easily can argue Christians into not having a way to refute the JW's challenges. JW's are deceived- along with most Christians, so there are similiarities but on different sides of the issue. If you take the charge of Jesus Christ seriously you will see the truth. It's not taken seriously in the majority of Christianity. See Matt ch 5,6 &7.

Because they insist that they have the truth. They are not interfaith. The early Christians were the same way and were equally disliked by the pagans.

Remember Mt 7:13 Go in through the narrow gate; because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; 14 whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it.

Pedi C: Jesus also said that he came to divide families. Mt 10:35 For I came to cause division, with a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, ...37 He that has greater affection for father or mother than for me is not worthy of me;...

All of my brothers and sisters have answered pretty accurately, so I won't say anything on that subject...

But on a closely related matter, I find it ridiculous how MISINFORMED some ppl are. Sum1 said we believe Michael is Jesus' brother (wrong), sum1 else said we only believe 144,000 will be saved and all others will die (wrong), sum say we deny the divinity of Jesus (wrong), and the list goes on....

Do you people actually get this information from the mouths of Witnesses or our literature (highly unlikely), or do you just regurgitate the stuff you've been hearing on the streets?

Amen, the people of the books and faiths are protected by them. If you look at the state of the people today, you have to wonder how they got these numbers they have been given.
Knowledge, proof, messenger and books with warnings and glad tidings was given to every nation. Steps they make and there is many lines to the Lord but there is only One Lord Allah SWT All Mighty, All Merciful and there is nothing like him and nothing has begotten from him.

He is the creator and the creator cannot be created. Blind faith is blind faith, there has to be proof to even begin to believe, unless you have been led astray. Those who are guided by the Lord, have never been guided by anything else but the Lord and those who have allowed themselves to be led astray where never guided by anything worth of any value to anyone but themselves.

Jehovah God wanted us to use his name. Matthew 6:9, Jesus told us that we should pray: "Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be SANCTIFIED." Also Isaiah 43:10 also brings out that Jehovah said, "You are my WITNESSES." God is a Title. Even with Arabs. A good dictionary will show you, “Allah” is a shortened form of the Arabic term meaning “the god", this is not a name. The title “God” is neither personal nor distinctive. In the Hebrew Scriptures the same word (ʼElo‧him′) is applied to Jehovah, the true God, and also to false gods. The Imperial Bible-Dictionary says: “It is everywhere a proper name, denoting the personal God and him only; whereas Elohim partakes more of the character of a common noun, denoting usually, indeed, but not necessarily nor uniformly, the Supreme. . . . The Hebrew may say the Elohim, the true God, in opposition to all false gods; but he never says the Jehovah, for Jehovah is the name of the true God only. He says again and again my God . . . ; but never my Jehovah, for when he says my God, he means Jehovah. He speaks of the God of Israel, but never of the Jehovah of Israel, for there is no other Jehovah. He speaks of the living God, but never of the living Jehovah, for he cannot conceive of Jehovah as other than living.” Hope This Helps

It is Tradition. People will always believe on how they are brought up and maybe someone talked bad about Jehovah's Witnesses. A lot of People don't want to hear the truth on what JW's are about. I personally befriended a few JW's, they do life by on what they "preach". Unlike so called Reverends who preach on Sundays and fool around on Monday. No disrespect intended, I know most Preachers are not like that. But I know from personal experience of at least 5 miss guided preachers.

I am a Jehovah's Witness.

The bible says at John 17:3 "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you the only true God, and the one whom you sent forth Jesus Christ."

Each of us needs to study the bible and see for ourselves.

You can listen to all those who have an hatred for Witnesses, but they are biased. You can listen to Witnesses who are happy with their decision, but the decision needs to be yours, you need to make "the truth" your own, by studying the bible. If you are interesting in learning what the bible really teachings and how Jehovah views matters, study with Jehovah's Witnesses. If you don't agree with what they teach, it is your decision, not based on someone else's opinion. If you do agree, and later decide to dedicate your life to Jehovah, we will welcome you with open arms as our new sister.
