I have seen REPEATED posts of Christians saying, "God cannot be questioned!" or "Stop trying to judge God, God is above all human judgement."

But when a Christian wants someone from another faith to convert, they ask them to question and doubt the validity of their beliefs and to also question the Diety they worship.

How come, the same approach cannot be used with the Christian beliefs and Diety? Why when you question or doubt it, you are told, it is a sin or wrong to do so? Isn't that a bit unfair?

If we are to use that process to decide which faith to reject, why can't we use that same process to decide which faith to follow?

Why must we question ours but not yours?

How are we to know we are not just following another according to some Christians "false religion or false God" if we cannot judge and question YOUR God and his actions and what you say are his words?

Don't we have the right to use our God given faculties to weigh the differences?

Earnest S, my complaint is not with Christians who actually do exactly that and "reason togther" but those who assert that God is above human judgement and the bible is beyond questioning. Yet expect non-Christians to question and take apart THEIR beliefs. Perhaps you did not understand my question.

There is one authentic and universal Christian church, and over 50,000 different denominations ... all claiming to be authentic as well.

Anyone who doesn't critically judge all the related facts and principles is not only lazy, but is also a fool.

I think you have to be open minded when you look into your own or other religions. Everyone has a right to believe as they choose. However, to say any human knows the mind of God is something that can not be done. You never fully know someone elses mind, and often question what you know so therein lies the doubt. We are probably not capable to comprehend all the answers, it is beyond our natural abilities. You must test things to know what you believe and why.

As a Christian, I want to applaud this question!

I recently got a not-so-nice email because of the way I responded to a post that basically asked, "Do you ever question your Christian faith? Do you ever not want to believe in God?"

My answer was that when you question your faith, it means that its time to re-evaluate your beliefs and the path that you are on to determine if its right for you, because God wants us to follow him whole-heartedly, not out of fear or obligation. I was told that it was wrong for me to suggest that a person contemplate following another religion besides Christianity.

I believe its better to understand why you believe than to follow a doctrine blindly. Not truly grasping the ideology of the religion you follow won't please God, because it will severely hinder your relationship with him and therefore your spiritual experience as a whole.

My goodness... the Bible is not above questioning (that is how we learn). Questioning your faith is how it grows.

Here's my take (sorry if I've been repeating myself...): faith is not static. It is alive and needs to breathe. Telling someone or yourself never to question is denying faith life and growth.

What power there is in finding God moving in the world! Subtle little things. Subtle BIG things. What people say, what they do. Question EVERYTHING and I find that God reveals himself.

Oh, though really its incidental, I am a Christian.

Good question, Pixie.

Regards

I think the standards get relaxed to appease the masses. Imagine how the ranks of christianity would be decimated if everybody with a tattoo was kicked out and all the Red Lobsters were burned to the ground in the name of god. Gays get picked on because it's still safe to do so without significantly inconveniencing the "flocks".

The key to this lies in understanding that they are brainwashed. They have been subject to sophisticated mind-control techniques that have been perfected and refined over the past 1,700 years.

There is an INDUSTRY (Christianity) whose BUSINESS it is to create whole generations of adults who are, at once, gullible, irrational, willfully ignorant, self-deluded, intellectually dishonest, droolingly stupid and hypocritical... and willing to tithe 10% for the privledge having their cognitive dissonance held in check through regular doses of pious and holy bullshit.

Religious 'shepherds' KNOW that their 'flock' (sheeple) are scientifically ignorant and incapable of critical thinking... because they've been PROGRAMMED to be ignorant. They KNOW that they are suspicious of 'scientific' sources , and find them to be intimidating and incomprehensible... because they've been CONDITIONED to distrust them. These puppet-masters KNOW that their flock (victims) will seek their 'knowledge' from 'trusted' sources... these very-same puppet-masters. When the sheeple hear things like 'scientists claim that humans and apes shared a common ancestor, in the distant past', they experience 'cognitive dissonance'... this information is in conflict with the 'truth' that they have believed for their whole lives. So... where do they go to resolve this cognitive dissonance?... Scientists?... NO! They go to their 'trusted' sources... the sources who KNOW that they have been taught WHAT to think... they have not been taught HOW to think. Sources who KNOW that they can lie, obfuscate, misrepresent with impunity... with absolutely NO RISK that their minions will seek out independent, peer-reviewed corroborating information.

They do their jobs very well indeed... as can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xKDKq_PPbk&mode=related&search=

In summary... they can't help it. Although it may not seem like it, judging from the way that most ot them conduct themselves, but they are, in fact, victims. Pity them.
