I want a little star on my foot, but I only have $40. Can I get a nice one for that much? I just want the basic outline.

I think that depends on where you are. Out here in LA, the shop minimum for all the shops I've researched, is $50. But, back East, most of the tattoo shops around me priced by tattoo and didn't have a minimum amount. So it is possible. As long as a shop doesn't have a set minimum price, you should have no problem getting what you want, most artists are pretty flexible with stuff like that.

As for how 'nice' it will be, I can't make any promises. Foot tattoos hurt, a lot (I have several) and it is extremely difficult to sit still throughout the whole process. If you're jumpy, your outline might not be as good as it could be and the artist will more than likely want to go back over it and bold the lines to give you a better final product, which could lead to problems, if you got charged for time instead of for the piece itself.

I would really like to see you save up some more money and be able to allow your artist some creative freedom, in case a nervous twitch or something causes a line to be crooked, at least this way, you can be sure that you're getting a nice tattoo for the money you paid.

Good Luck

Depends on the shop. That would probably fall under the shop min. fee. The shop I use has a $43 min., my tattoo is a one inch by one inch Kanji in just the black outline as well so it's really simple. Pull tegether about $20 more just to be safe and ask shops. Each studio is different but don't price hunt, shop for the skills of the artist. Good luck!

It all depends on the shop minimum. It is not about "not wanting" to do small pieces or even taking up time - no matter what is tattooed there is still the same set up for it and if the shop is very responsible to prevent cross contamination, it can become expensive.

Unfortunately, you would not be able to get a $40 piece in my studio but you can in others depending on location.

$40 - 50 is usually the minimum cost for a tattoo. Depending on the shop you go to, you could probably get a decent sized tattoo for your foot for $40.

SAVE SOME MORE MONEY! Sorry for yelling, but when it comes to tattoos, you don't want to scrimp TOO much, because you WILL get what you pay for.
WHY are you getting the star on your foot? Does it have MEANING to you, or do you just want to get a tattoo? A tattoo is permanent, so you want to make sure it is done right the FIRST time, so you don't end up smacking yourself later for being so anxious to GET the tattoo.
Don't be rash. Be smart. Save money, and invest in quality work.

Most shops have a $50 minimum- and that's for something really small. In the tattoo world, you often get what you pay for, and since it's there forever, you'd do best to save up for what you want and find the best artist you can to do it.

I consider a "big" tattoo to be one that contours to the body, an works with your flesh's coloring, and shape. I consider a "small" tattoo to be one that is like a sticker, or stamp on top of your flesh.

it all depends on what your tattoo artist charges as a shop minimum.. many shop owners charge you simply for taking up their shop time.. and then charge you for the labor.. i've also met artists who hate doing small tattoos and will charge more just because they think it's a waste of their time.. but yeah it all depends on who is doing it.. but i would imagine if it was very small with no coloring it wouldn't cost much.. and it also wont take much time.. like under ten minutes..

It really depends on the person doing the tattoo and the shop fee's.
