I bought a shiny chrome freestanding toiletpaper holder. It was the only one I could find and everything else in my bathroom is brushed chrome. I figured there was some way to make it look brushed so it will match.

Use fine steel wool and rub in one direction. Be gentle and wipe it with a soft dry cloth after each stroke. That way you will be able to tell how it looks as you work.
