If you think of all the horrible mass shootings, Virginia Tech, DC Sniper and others there seems to be a common thread where the perpetrators of these crimes shouldn't have had the guns in the first place? Is there a system that we can make efficiently so gun shop and sporting goods store owners can quickly reference that the purchaser of the gun is allowed to buy this gun. I am all for the second amendment, but I do realize that there are certain people in society that shouldn't have guns that is affecting law abiding citizens right to bear arms?

The solution is so simple and common-sense that the big-wigs in power are unable to think of it --- it's as easy as a basic criminal/mental health background check.

I like the ccw permit system (concealed carry weapons permit) most states have.
If the same process was applied to all gun ownership, I think less people who are less responsible or capable around firearms will be out there with guns.
I wouldn't mind even if I had to go through a whole month of fire arms instructions and training. As long as I'm guaranteed to keep my right to bear arms after successful completion of the class.

We can't.
It is a fact that those who want guns will get them,whether hook,crook or borrow.
The laws we have now would be completely adequate, if they were enforceable. They are just too easily procured. The ratio of cops to criminals makes total control impossible.
Remember the old saying"Outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns"? Very wise statement.
But, in a perfect world, it would be great if every thug is the free world was not packing!!

Easy.
You make sure that the mentally insane people, ex criminals, and foreigners outside of this country don't get a gun.
You have mental background checks to know the mental health of a want to be gun owner.
You make sure that they're a U.S.A. citizen with no past crime record.

I'm not sure if my theory would make any difference, but I always thought that people who go and buy guns should have to take and pass a gun safety course before owning a gun.

I wish I knew, but my guess is it has something to do with the same reasons why we can't solve this countries drug problems. Along with the overall national attitude being its none of my business not my problem, we don't have the moral or the political will.

Take all guns away from policemen and government. Only private citizens may bear arms ! Is my suggestion. We we no longer need them and the money we use to support them can be applied against our national debt. Let's get out of debt / stop spending money we do not have .
