Do you want out of the foster care system or into a more permament family situation?

If it's out of the system, then I have to say that 18 will come before you know it and then you can be done with it.

But if you want to be adopted simply because you want to be an official member of a family, with all the joys and hassles that entails, then be proactive. Look for sites that will attract prospective adoptive parents and set up something to get in touch with them. Call adoption angencies and ask if they'll discuss the adoption of older children with clients-- or if they'll just let you put up fliers around their office.

But be careful, some situations will be a lot worse than foster care. And some creeps would rather date a forteen year old girl than adopt her.

But, hey, if you want some help looking around for ways to find adoptive parents, just contact me.

(I'm only twenty-six so I'm not ready to be a mother of a teenager, but I am an expert in little sisters)

Most families unfortunately do not want to adopt teenagers because they feel as if they are more hard-to-handle. Also teenagers have their own minds and make their own decisions, whereas an adolescent usually looks up to an adult figure.

My brothers and I were in a foster home when I was 14 (mother = medical reasons). There were kids of all ages in the house and they all raised hell. They did not care and the system did not care either.

I pray everything turns out the way you want it. Good Luck!

Oh honey, I'm so sorry to hear that! I was adopted from the foster care system at 7, so I know I was younger than you, but just hang in there, ok? Maybe talk to your caseworker about some options, a lot of families feel more confident raising younger kids. Talk to your caseworker, see if he or she can think of any families willing to adopt a teenager or older child. I'll pray for you sweetie, good luck!

I have a close friend in your same situation, but she's only been in foster care for about 5 years. There's not always a clear reason as to why people don't adopt, but you can know that you are loved and there are people who care about you. I'll pray that someone adopts you soon. : )

How old are you, sweetie? I'm not too sure how adoption works, but if I had millions of dollars to my name, I'd adopt you. I am young, but I want a daughter more than anything in the world. Email me if you'd like.

FYI: The parents or legal guardian are the only ones who can emancipate you until you are 18!

I'll be thinking of you too!!!! I really hope that somehow, some miracle happens and brings you to a true family.

In the meantime, look for people who love you as family members, even if it's as a sister. And it's also true what has been said, you very much deserve a loving family!!!
