Andrew: I don't believe that armed conflict is the ONLY solution to ALL our problems. Surely a defensive, proud, protective and strong. content army is what everyone deserves?

An army should be an army.

My experience was in an army with Defence Force attached to its name and that's what I believe, it should be mostly for Defence.

Offence if used should be used as a last resort and preferably be overwhelming. It doesn't pay to try and be the worlds peacekeeper, one country can't do it for ever and a coalition will struggle even.

As for how an army should be Sweden is a good example.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

The role of any army in any country is to project the policy of its government to an armed level if such move is deemed necessary, by that government. Perhaps the question could be phrased:

What role will the British Government assign to its armed forces??

we need our armed forces back here protecting our home land. new labour have let in to this country a massive army of young male Muslims, and at the same time and CO! INCIDENTALLY our borders are being flooded with container loads of guns. there are so many in the country now that you can pick one up for as little as £50.00...you couldn't even buy an air rifle for that. the combination of guns and angry young Muslims is not a combination i want to see on our streets while our army is spread all around the world on missions that have nothing to do with Briton. from a tactical point of view we are handing our selves and our country to the enemy on a plate. and make no mistake extremest Muslims are our enemy. we need our soldiers back in the home land.

You can buy a gun cheaper on the streets of the UK than on the streets of America?.....Well I'm hopping a Jet out of DIA and buy that Glock I've always wanted, and just mail that puppy back. Between airfare and fifty quid and weak dollar I'll still come out ahead.

To defend the British Isles from attack, provide support in national emergencies and to supply troops for the United Nations force.
Remember the collective name for our armed forces is the Ministry of Defence not its predecessor the War Department.
Maybe we should inform our illustrious leaders of this fact.
