In a lot of Asian communities, eating shark fin is thought to cure diseases, extend life and make men more virile. Science has tested this theory hundreds of times and it turns out shark fin does none of these things. But people refuse to believe the science, Why?
The EXACT same belief exists in African countries concerning black rhino horn. Science has tested these theories and all of them are false.

Christians believe the bible is the word of god. But then a man did some research and wrote the book Misquoting Jesus. It is proof that the bible is a lie, that it has been falsified and made up by translators and scribes for 1700 years (until the advent of the printing press.) The bible is a story, a lie, and the evidence is right there, in that book. You cannot dispute it because the evidence is tangible, it is real, written down in ancient texts.
But you still insist that it IS real, that it IS the truth, that it IS the word of god. Why?

They don't want to know the truth. It's scary to accept one's own mortality and the idea that no one's in charge. Time for us all to grow up, create a better world, and stop waiting for some fairy-tale savior to swoop down and rescue us. The key is: kindness and respect for each other and the natural world around us. Simple as that.

I am an electrical engineer, I have a recording studio, my business is Lighting and Wooden flooring, wall panel ling and staircase. I was borned in a Chinese Buddhist family, baptized a Catholic then I left the Church due to unanswered logical question in marine biology and science until I start representing Arco Water Treatment Chemical and studied about water. Then I realized that there is a power up there that could design contradicting laws of nature but they still sychonized with the other laws which are basic. I studied all religion of the world and found that the that are verses written almost 5000 years ago in Chinese old Kanci which is exactly the same as the Book of the Old Testament. I love and enjoy astronomy, science fiction, ET, UFO, SETI and even consider the possibility that we are an experiment from an advance biotech civilization. But after studying almost 40 years it is very difficult to find that our world is intellegently designed. I could not find a better religion than Christianity. If you have a better option I would love to consider and studied it.

Okay, are you talking about the book by Bart Ehrman? I think you'd better read that book again. I like how you don't give the authors name...LOL..very vague for a reason.
The point of the book is to explain the procedures used to compare the same gospel that has been found in many different languages, written in different years etc. This allows scholars to see where the same gospel written in two different languages are the same, how the story has changed over years, etc. Just because the texts were changed, does not mean there is tangible evidence that what is written down ORIGINALLY is false, or was false to those who wrote it down. They believed it.
Essentially, there were original documents (gospels, apocrypha, etc.) that have been changed due to oral traditions, and scribes interpreting them their own way, inserting their own ideologies, etc. into the text when they copied them down.
What Ehrman is saying is that there was an original doctrine of beliefs written down, and they have been changed, skewed, etc. over time by a variety of people and groups.

This can also be said for ANY religious document from ANY religion. They are written by man period. Now, that being said, just because science has proven things to be fallible does not make them true for some people in the world.

I have spent the past three years studying early Christianity for a BA, have read many of Professor Bart Ehrman's books, as well as many others. Even though I have learned that the face of modern Christianity and its doctrine today is NOT what it was in ancient times, maybe even not meant to be what it is today, I still believe in God and Jesus.
Do I believe that salvation comes thru Jesus' death? No. I have to say that I believe the gnostic tradition that has Jesus teaching his apostles that the Kingdom is within us (look at the texts in the Nag Hammadi Library for more...)

I guess what I am saying is that there are some things that you have to take on faith in this world if you want to believe in them and make them work for you.

beg pardon for answering a question with another question, but is it so wrong to believe in something? the Bible is not only said to be the word of God- human error has with no doubt about it slightly corrupted the original translation, but it's essence is the same. just because a person is misquoted doesn't mean they originally meant the opposite and that everything is wrong. the Bible is not only a staple of belief, but something to look into. it is the proof for religious people that God truly was on this earth and cared, that the human race isn't so horrible as to ignore the blessings we have received. a staple of Catholic belief is that the Pope is infallible. He speaks for God. He has obviously allowed the Bible to continue existing, therefore a Catholic believes that the Bible contains the same essence. also, is it just coincidence that things in science work so well? that there are so many uniformities? science cannot disprove God, it can only show how amazingly brilliant He is in the creation of every single detail that we take for granted. So, some say the Bible is false and that Christians are stupid for continuing to believe in it. i have another question in return- Ignoring the religious aspect of the Bible, is it so wrong to follow guidelines of becoming a better person? is it wrong to tell the truth, not steal, act with respect towards all around you? before you begin bashing the GOOD Book, think about how many people have such good morals because of it...

The book "Misquoting Jesus" is the truth and the bible a lie because, why?

I missed what makes the bible, that is the word of God, a lie, but that same thing, that makes a book which calls the bible a lie, the truth.

I agree, science proves all and it has disproved all of those things, including Christianity. I mean, no offense, but they can't base beliefs on some old religiuos book and emotions, evidence just doesn't prove it. And no offense, but the Holy Spirit is a feeling and false confidence, us agnostics/atheists tend to be more open, while you guys don't look at the evidence................. what's taught in schools? That is what is more accurate.

you can choose to believe a man over God, that is your choice, however, man will fade away, but the word of God will stand forever. So I stand on the truth of God. Nothing a man will say will change my mind about God and His Word. I believe that that person who wrote that book is MISQUOTING JESUS- He is who, He says He is, and one day, you and the author of that book, will bow their knee to Him. I hope that you do it before it will be too late. What if the bible is right?

What did you find during your reading and studying of the Bible? Or did you not do your own studying? Did you rely on the word of someone you don't even know? Before you make false statements, you need to do research.

Here is a good place to start so you will not be lead by others:

Read and learn God's Word, here is a day by day outline on how to read and study the Bible:

It takes some serious cognitive dissonance to look at two different ancient copies of the same text, see that they differ in a substantial way, and then claim the Bible is the same today as it was when it was written. It's just crazy.
