Because if you take care of yourself, it won't be all ugly. My mom is 56, has 4 tattoos, and they all look great. STILL. People are stupid. If your tattoo looks like crap when you get old that's because you didn't take care of your body when you had the chance.

I have 3 tattoos.
One I got when I was 19. I still like it but I kinda wish I did not get it. I was young and drunk when I got it. It has a lot of meaning to it though. I was a radio and night club DJ for a few years. I also dibbled in the music industry. When I hosted nights out, I always had a mic in one hand and a cigarette in another. This tat is of a TAZ with a derby hat, a cigarette, a microphone and musical notes on my left shoulder. It cannot be seen unless I have no shirt on.
The second tattoo I have is on my back left shoulder of a baby angel with blonde hair and my daughters name. This is a very meaningful one for me and also cannot be seen unless I have my shirt off.
The third one I have is of a scorpion on my right shoulder. I am a scorpio through and through. The tail goes around my arm as a band. Similar to like the tribal bands you see. The scorpions claws come together at the point of my shoulder. It also cannot be seen unless I have on very short sleeves or my shirt off.
I have always told people who get tattoos that they should be 100% sure of what they want but even more improtantly of WHERE they want to put it. I personally do not care what others think. I got my tattoos for me, not them. This is something very personal to me. I do not believe getting a tattoo is a fad or a trend. You dont get one because "everyone else has one."
Besides, it doesnt matter what it will look like when I am 80 years old. It will still hold meaning and wont be seen by anyone unless I want them to see it.
You must remember that the tattoo you get is something that should be special to you. It truly does not matter what others think and tattoos can be beautiful works of art. Heck, if ya always did what others thought, you'd dress that way, or do your hair that way..........blah blah.........but that also doesnt mean I want my daughter dating some guy who has a burning cross tattoo'd on his bald head & his nipples pierced.
Ugh! She is only 9 so if that happens I'd have to go get the shotgun anyway.... :)

Well, I have 3 tattoos on my back, in between shoulder blades. When I was getting it I wasn't thinking of how it's gonna look when I get old. I am 25 btw.
Not all tattoos gonna look bad, depends on where it is. Like it's not recommended to get a tattoo on your tummy or breasts if you're planning to get pregnant. It will deform... etc.
If you want to get one and you're having some doubts- think it over.
Besides there are couple of methods (surgery, laser treatment and skin-peeling methods) which remove the tattoo. Just it costs way more to get one removed than to get one done.

For me it's still MY choice! I made the choice on my own i took in consideration of what they said. I have seen many older people with their tattoos and they really dont look that bad! I got mine about a couple years ago and i still love them. Planning on getting more too! So they all know that i have them but it's my choice and it should be yours also! in my family for some God givin reason they age very well. my mom is 50 and she looks like she is maybe 35! So hey why not! I am gonna enjoy my life no matter what people say!

I have both arms almost covered and am starting on my back. My stock answer to this question is "Who's gonna be looking at them at that point anyway?" The real truth is this. I don't get tattoos for anyone else but me. Each image means something to me. I can look at any one of them and know the story of why, when and what was happening in my life. On my arms I've commemorated everything from an old girlfriends' death to me graduating Army Basic training. These stories will never fade or get "all ugly".

So many people have told me that I'm going to regret my tattoos when I'm older or it will be ugly when I'm older, but I really don't care what they say. People are going to judge anyone whether the person deserves it or not. Two of my tattoos are dedicated to two people in my life who have passed away, so I don't care if they get ugly or not, it's something I got to remember those people. And honestly, if my tattoos do look bad when I'm older, then I'll just wear long-sleeved shirts. My body, right? :)

Because you're going to be ugly when you're old anyway! Tattoos are not responsible for wrinkles, age spots, and all the other unpleasant physical effects of aging.
The other reason is that, at that age, the important thing is remembering the wisdom and lessons of your life, so that you can share them with others. And since my tattoos mark important landmarks in my life, they help me do that.
And finally, it's just not true. With proper care and maybe a touch up or 2, you can keep a tattoo looking nice well into old age. I've seen people in their 70's and 80's who still have nice tattoos, because they took care of them!

My great grandfather has tons of tattoos from when he was in the army in WWI. He has a tattoo with the name of every man who died under his command. He has a tattoo of Great gramma when she was a young girl (it's a pin-up). He has a lot of tattoos that mean something very important and specific to him. Just because they have faded and don't look like they did a hundred zillion years ago does not diminish their meaning.
I have tattoos. Each one has a meaning. Each one is a badge. Each one is something to remind me of certain things. Even if they get old and ugly, it does not change their meaning. Plus, all my tattoos can be covered with shorts and a t-shirt. By the time I'm old enough to have faded, distorted tattoos, I seriously doubt I will be prancing around in a bikini. I've had most of mine for 8 years now. They could use a touch-up to make them more bright, but they are still very beautiful.

I turn 45 this year, you may think that is old but its just the beginning. EastCoast Al worked his magic on me a couple of months ago and he too asked the question, why do you want a tattoo and what will it mean to you? I couldn't answer, and he sent me home and told me not to come back until I could honestly answer him. He showed me his book of tattoos and took me through the stories of each person, wow, he really cared about his art and wanted me to realize that getting one just because you want one was ok too but wanted me to be sure. All of the other tattoo parlors I went too just gave me a price and wanted to know when I wanted it done. $$$$ It took me three months to discover what was driving me to get one at my age. Its very beautiful, a jeweled dragonfly I helped design, and each jewel has a special meaning as does the dragonfly itself. I hope to one day get a full back piece that will tell my story, that's what tattoo's do, they tell your story. So don't just slap on a rose or a tribal piece, design your own, if your thinking about choosing one off the wall then I would say you are not ready for a tat. And yes one day it will fade maybe even sag but the meaning and the rememberence of loved ones lost, my father, the loss of my twins, the sacarafices we make for others, the day my husband said I could have a buddy becuase he didn't want me to be alone (he works weird hours and doesn't have time for me) , the fact I'm turning 45 and have outlived my father... yes their are lots of reasons to get a tat and because I want one is also a reason, not the best reason but it works too. Choose carefully its going to be with you a long time and its for you no one else.

I think it's because it's our bodies were doing it to, so other people's judgments really don't matter that much. If you want to get a tattoo then you should, who cares what people think? It's not their place to say it looks bad or that you aren't fit for one. I mean I have 6 and still going and I don't care what people think or say it's none of their business and you should do the same.
