I have a few VHS tapes that i would like to copy to my computer in standard movie format. What's the easiest and cheapest way to copy movies from a VHS tape to a computer ?

but personally, the easiest way was to use a stand-alone DVD recorder or combo VHS/DVD recorder like this one - http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=LVC-9016G&cat=CON - and rip the video from the DVD to the computer.

are you talking camcorder tapes, or pre-recorded movies? movies have a copyright signal and most legal software and dual deck recorders will reject any attempt to copy them.
