I have heard of tons of your so called evidence and yet I have also found a huge percentage to have been discredited. yet everyone denies that and they continue to teach the discredited theories in schools. I am not trying to bring anyone down but i really want to know why. I have asked scientist and teachers and they always act as if they don't understand. please help!

again, I am trying to understand it. and if you want an example look at the fossil of lucy that they say is half human half chimp when it was just a deformed chimp with tons of bones missing, as in not found. besides, you can't count fossil evidence since you can not say that that animal ever had kids let alone that they were diffierent. also i am not asking as a creationist but as a spectator trying to understand.

alot of you seem to be pretty stupid seeing as only one person has come close to answering the question, also just because you haven't heard of it doesn't make it any less true. you are misreading the question. i am not trying to offend, just enlighten myself on all sides of our origin. if you are going to use this time to call me a misguided idiot then you have got to be the greatest imbecils to live.

also i am not talking about things like humans looking different over the generations i mean a monkey turning into a human. it can't be discredited but it can't be proven. and you can't test it.

I am a middle public school science teacher and a Christian. I teach evolution as a theory which all of my science textbooks also teach. My science colleagues who are not Christians also teach it as theory. It is not scientific fact. I am not allowed to teach any other theories so I don't, but if I were they would be taught as theories also. There are many credible scientists in the universities who say that there is evidence that could point to intelligent design. For anyone in doubt, read Lee Stoble's "The Case for a Creator" there are over 200 pages of discredited evidence given in several interviews by well known and credible Ivy League professors with too many endorsements behind their names to list.

Evolution... okay, this is the last time I answer this question.

Have you ever read the theory of human evolution? That is what we are talking about isn't it. I mean what do you care if birds came from rats or vice versa right?!

First the word theory. You believe in Gravity right? You understand how it works, right? Newton's dissertation on gravity is known as the THEORY of Gravity. It takes a hell of a lot of proof to make something go from Hypothesis (which most theists believe is what we are talking about when we say theory - see the scientific method) to theory. Tons. Theory simply means that we don't know everything yet. For instance, Newton's theory of Gravity frame the universe in a perfect harmonious balance. With the discovery of black holes and the fact that our galaxy has a major one in the center of it, Newton' s idea had to be built upon, therefore its the THEORY of Gravity.

Gravity is fact, just like evolution, you need look no further then the nearest mirror to see evolution at work. Americans no longer look like their European and African counterparts. The longer Asians stay here and begin to intermingle, they too will start to lose their distinct characteristics. We, America, is evolving in to its own, new race.

The theory of evolution like the theory of gravity is so completely complex, that I highly doubt most have taken a good look at everything the theory presents. Unlike creationism which offers ZERO proof or fact. Creationism operates from our affinity to believe that the world is never changing and has always been the way it has been since the beginning. But that has fallen apart since the time of Galileo and Newton because we have learned that the universe and the planet are constantly in flux.

I think you have a lot to learn on evolution. A fossil doesn't need to have kids. It represents a species. that species evolves, not the individual. Also, there is no such thing as a discredited theory. By definition, a theory hasn't been falsified (discredited). Also, Lucy is indeed a transitional fossil to human evolution. I think you getting info from bad sources.

The theory of evolution is one of the most supported theories there are. And there is lots and lots of evidence for it.

Evolution is real, it may not be perfectly refined but the evidence overwhelmingly supports evolution. Now your fundamental problem is that for some reason you view evolution and creation as mutually exclusive, they are not. Why can you not simply take scientific evidence and religious belief and merge them to say that God used evolution to create? This, in my opinion, is very similar to in the middle ages when the first evidence was found that the earth was not the center of the solar system or universe for that matter. When this heliocentric theory was first developed the church said that this can not be true. Now we know that it was true and that churches were forced to accept it as truth or loose every rational believer. Now consider that the first heliocentric theories emerged they were not perfect, they thought that the planets revolved in perfect circles around the sun but we now know that the patterns are ovular in nature. Consider the parallels and why you are unable to accept science because the church NOT the bible tells you that it is wrong.

wth? Who in hell says that lucy is a half man half chimp? No, lucy is a homo erectus. Lucy is a step along the evolutionary ladder.

No, actually most of evolution has been proven. Occasionally its ammended but thats not "a huge percentage".

What do you think has been discredited?

Maybe your teachers and scientists don't understand because YOU have it wrong. Did you ever think of that?

I think I'm just as confused as you scientists and teachers. You have it all wrong.

Lucy is one of the oldest skeletons in the world. Of course it isn't complete. Did you notice that bones break and get squished? Fossilization is very very rare.

It's the *best explanation currently proposed*, not *absolute truth*. Get your science understanding straightened out.

Also, I love how you give no examples of discredited evidence. Sure, Piltdown Man was a phony, but when the scientists realized that, they stopped teaching about him immediately.

If you want an explanation of evolution, try http://evolution.berkeley.edu/ as a starting point. And it's not just atheists that say evolution is true - it's anybody who has actually tried looking at the evidence, including theists.

And "Godditit" isn't scientific, since it's not falsifiable.

* This is a science question, and has nothing to do with religion.
* Evolution is every much a fact as gravity (another scientific theory)
* Over 99.8% of scientists in relevant field accept evolution.
* There are no alternative scientific theories.
* There is a huge amount of evidence in support of evolution...
* And zero evidence against it.
* The 'discussion' is actually educated people trying to educate others.
* The more intelligent a person is, the more likely they are to understand and accept evolution.
* The "discussion" only happens in backward places like Turkey and parts of the united states.

a million. This in general has anything to do with it for definite..."is a hazard to my ideals so I'm going to ignore the proof for the reason that my individual interpretation of the Bible trumps any and all technological know-how"? " two. As I do..."I do not discover the proof for evolution convincing".

not just atheists, theists too

You've found no such thing. Doesn't your god frown on lying?
The discreditors have been discredited

doesn't it seem odd to you that if evolution had been "discredited" as you say that thousands of scientists over many decades in many different countries have spent their entire lives dedicated to it's research?

Evolution is considered a fact within the scientific community. Only among the public is it disputed because either people are ignorant about it or believe blatant lies about evolution.

And not all atheists are for evolution and not all theists are against.

Even if the theory of evolution was shown to be wrong, which is highly unlikely, the PROCESS of evolution would still be true.

The theory of evolution explains the fact. Both are different things.
