Why would you want to. Food is yummy, and alcohol is great, both of those you should consume always in moderation. And sex is the best thing ever, and that should be practiced responsibly and with a safty conscious mind. Once you know how to take part in the "sins of flesh" responsibly, why should you give them up.

the only way you can crucify the works of the flesh, is through believing in the shed blood of Christ. "You are crucified with Christ,it is not longer you that lives, but Christ lives in you." So therefore, the only way you can do this, is admit that you are a sinner, repent and accept Christ as payment for your sin, and then ask the Holy Spirit to help you crucify the works of the flesh. Works of the flesh is sin, so if you believe that there are works of the flesh you must really believe in the concept of sin.

I don't quite understand the concept.
I've always been an atheist - the knowledge I've gained about religions has been gained from reading and observing; none of it experientially.

Could I equate it with stopping smoking, without any patches or gums, hypnotherapy or acupuncture, or any other 'outside' help, on NY's day after 45 years of doing it?
I just followed the Nike maxim: Just do it.

How else do you 'overcome' stuff?
Maybe I’m way off the mark – religious rituals have always been an enigma to me.

Practice makes perfect. You just have to practice doing without things that your body enjoys, and do it more and more. The question is, what would be their motivation. To that I have no answer.
