You are a Christian.

The Episcopal Church is the offical name of the Province of the Anglican Communion in the United States, and several other nations, including dioceses in Asia, Central and South America, and Europe. Organized as a church shortly after the American Revolution, it was the first autonomous Anglican province outside the British Isles. The Episcopal Church considers itself a via media, or middle way, having aspects of both the Roman Catholic Church and Protestantism.

The Episcopal Church was active in the social gospel movement of the late nineteenth century and since the 1960s and 1970s has played a leading role in the progressive and liberal movements in church and secular politics. For example, in its resolutions on secular issues the Episcopal Church has taken both sides on the abortion debate, opposed the death penalty, and supported affirmative action and the civil rights movement. In some dioceses, openly homosexual men and women can be ordained; in others, same-sex unions are celebrated.

Unfortunately, in most dioceses, women are ordained to the priesthood and episcopate (which is completely against Scripture, Tradition and Reason - but that's another story), as well as the diaconate.

The present leader of the Episcopal Church is a woman, the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori.

Which is why I am NOT an Episcopalian.

Excellent Question! Very bright girl!

My uncle is a retired (of about 2 years now) Episcopalian Rector of his own parish down in Ga. You are most definitely a Christian. As far as your mom stating that you are an "Episcopalian" I think she might slightly be misled by the authority of her church in that sometimes when Catholicism and Episcopalians lock horns, they tend to try to diminish the other's beliefs or base foundation and that's where Father K was talking about "the E. church left her foundation" so then you have 2 factions who feel theirs is the right and the other is the wrong. One just happens to be more secular "for the sinful people and masses" than the other. Catholicism, if it's in the truest since is very strict. Episcopalians have indeed "fallen off the wagon" so to speak when it comes to, not so much formality of doctrine, but more or less when speaking in terms of everyday man's existence and laws which are written, rewritten within the boundaries of the "separate church and state" mentality.
Hope that helped break it down for you a bit.

Episcopalianism/Anglicanism is a denomination of Christianity. Some Episcopalians/Anglicans are Catholic and some are Protestant Christians.

The Episcopal church is a branch of the Anglican church of England, which is a Protestant Christian religion.

So, you ARE Christian. But more specifically, you are Episcopal.

:) The Episcopal Church is a Christian denomination.

It is basically a branch of the Church of England (Anglican) in America

...you mother is incorrect... Jesus never ever established anything "Episcopalian" (an off-branch of the Roman Catholic Church)... If you follow the teachings of Jesus, your are (if you decide to call yourself) a Christian... (with all due respect to you mother... she can't take you to Chapter and vs. where Jesus set up anything other then what "He" taught). Remember, "religion" is mans attempt to reach God... God is smart enough to know that "we" could never do that, so He sent His Son to show us The Way.... not the ways of the many "religions" that attempt to do it "their way" in His Name.

it's a nice word for the Church of England

vs Church of Rome "mother church"

Ang land, land of the Anglo saxons, also land conquered by Rome at one time

the church of Ang land broke away from "mother church" I think mainly thanks to King Henry VIII not getting permision so he said "bump that" and formed own new line of church

funny now Eng land and mostly humanist/ atheist
