Countless times daily on R&S we see functionally illiterate atheists pronouncing holders of PHDs, many in scientific disciplines, to be stupid, gullible and illogical.

Countless times daily we also see sophomoric level atheists with a slightly better grasp of the written word line up to ally themselves with their spiritual kinfolk who made the initial pronouncements.

My question: Is it necessary to be educationally challenged to understand RS style atheism?

I think there are boneheads all over the place. There are people who consider me to be unintelligent... when I put aside all of the obvious ignorance, I often find some real pearls of wisdom within R&S.

Educationally challenged? What about just not yet educated? I was pretty convinced I had everything figured out by age 18 as well. Only after pursuing more education and learning a lot more did I realize that I know much less.

I don't know about that. I don't see too many atheists here TYPYING IN ALL CAPS TO CONVINCE GOD THAT THEY LOVE HIM, or saying things that make me wonder if they have even the faintest connection to reality.

I have also noticed that some of the atheists here have a better understanding of holy texts than the people who claim to follow them.

I also know, statistically, that there are 10 times as many atheists in the ranks of people with PhD's than in the general populace. It probably has something to do with the fact that in order to commit to knowledge and education, you have to leave your fairytale world behind.

I also notice, finally, that the religious people on here, like yourself, have a real hard time coming up with anything true to call us on.

But hey, you're good at deluding yourself into believing in religion, so I suppose it's easy for you to convince yourself you have a point, even if you don't.

I don't know what posts you're looking at, but I often find atheist questions and answers to be better written and more coherent than those of theists.

God gave me the ability to spell.

He also gave me 80% on my IQ test.

That's why I can understand the Bible. (Well, at least the parts that I agree with.)

I imagine your question lacked grammatical correctness from you assumed educational high ground

if illiterate, how then can atheists read / write a question?

This is an extremely thinly veiled insult.

You believe in an imaginary deity and have the audacity to call us gullible?

it's not that they are illiterate, it's that many of them are young people who were forced into religion and now feel like it's cool to be a "rebel" by claiming atheism. (of course, there are some older, established atheists who are serious - but since they don't believe, you rarely hear from them) the younger atheists are all loud noises and belligerence, because they seem to think that if they scream and posture, now one will notice that they are trotting out the same old dogma...

but wait til they get married and start having kids...they'll be looking for Jesus soon enough!

heh-heh...
