Absolutely.............There were a couple of races she was pointed to, including last week's Ruffian, and her return to the races kept being pushed back..........I read today that she has underwent several medical examinations and she's OK but if she's so OK why SEVERAL medical examinations???.......She's been away from the races since her Belmont win in June and that's a long layoff........All that was ever said was that she had a slight fever and a SLIGHT fever doesn't take that long to get rid of..............She's a champ just like Ruffian and Go For Wand but I can't help but wonder if she's 100%.............She should win this race for fun as there's nothing in it to match her calibur..........I sure as heck would hate to see anything happen to her..........I also read that depending on how she comes out of this race will determine which division she'll be entered in for the Breeder's Cup..............Go get 'em Rags...........We're rootin' for you all the way...............CAT

UPDATE........For anyone who doesn't know Rags lost yesterday by a short head.............Today it was written that she suffered a hairline fracture during the stretch running of the race and is out of racing for the rest of the year........I have my doubts as to whether we'll ever see her race again..........I'm truly sorry this happened..........CAT

At the end of the day good horses do get beaten and injuries will happen. It is a fact of horse racing.
Racecourse breakdowns are actually very rare when racing on the flat, although the mortality rate is higher on dirt tracks than on turf or artificial surfaces.
We must appreciate the good horses while they are around and not spend our time worrying about the possibility of things going wrong.
I would also like to make the point that while it is sad and heartbreaking for a horse to be fatally injured, there are worse things happening in this world.
I'm not being coldhearted: I love horses and have spent half my life around them with the last 7 years actively involved in horse racing. I just know and accept that wherever you have livestock you will also have dead-stock.

Of course. I think most people do. Many things said with such themes do imply that you are bad. It is quite natural for you to feel that way. Here something to think about. Life can be fun, even silly at times. But it is also serious. sometimes terrible things happen. Sometimes wonderful things. Life seems to be a mix. We are born without someone giving us a note to tell us what life is all about or what we are supposed to do. It's really up to you to figure that out. So I would give it some thought. Not all forms of religions or Christianity are super legalistic, with elaborate lists of do's and don'ts to worry about. Like living in a straight jacket. You could read the Bible on your own and check it out and make up your own mind, no pressure (like religious "salesmen" at your front door). It's important enough to give some attention to. I'm solidly Christian, but I don't go to church. Not laziness, just my choice. I work at doing good, and avoiding doing bad things. I don't always succeed. But that's ultimately not a problem. God's love and forgiveness overrides it all. I hope that helps. In the end, you must find your own path . Sometimes people can help, sometimes they can hurt. Often the Bible can help (I recommend the Today's English Version--easier to understand).

Although Rags to Riches lost yesterday, her trainer Todd Pletcher has handled her with great care. They have declined to enter races when Rags had just a slight fever.
Injuries can happen even when the horse is handled cautiously. I would not worry too much about Rags to Riches.

I think you're just focusing on the negative. Yeah, it's sad when a good filly or mare has to be put down, and yes, there's a slim chance that it could happen, but you're focusing on the extreme cases. Ashado, Azeri, Serena's Song, Winning Colors... they made it off the track safe and sound.

I love racing and work in it... unfortunately I get attached to my clients so I understand where you are coming from. I always have butterflies in my stomach, but like I said I love racing.
I don't think there is going to be problem here though. Rags to Riches got sidelined due to temperatures and not anything physical like strained muscles. So in her case I would tend not to worry as much!

i was going to post a question like this right now. i think that she needs a vacation she did fracture her hoof , and yes i now we all wanted to see her in the bc but u dont want to see her get hurt, or killed do u. tod p said no more races for her till 08. i now i DO NOT want to see another horse get hurt on the track like ruffian, barbaro ect. and i do agree every time theres a wonderful horse like her they always breakdown or get retired early but i would rather see her get retired early then get hurt on the track.
