I would make sure they are both fixed ASAP if not already. Females will always have fights to see who is the top dog. It's a female thing. I know a JR that killed a male Welsh Corgi, not a pretty sight. The Pit may put up with the JR for some time but it's a bad combination all in all. If you can keep them separate then that will work. Maybe have one outside while the other is inside. That way each will have your attention while the other has time to itself.
Keep a very close eye on them. This is not an easy fix.

YES they can live together in harmony. I own a pit bull and a small mutt and they get along fabulously. Just make sure both dogs are spayed.
The mutt actually shows the pit bull who is boss on a regular basis.
When you introduce the dogs, if the little one take the dominant position then they will be fine.
I would not leave them alone for long periods of time though, and be careful during feeding times. Dogs of all breeds can get a little edgy when it comes to a juicy beef snack (mine never have though, but I've seen other people's dogs get a little aggressive over snack time).

If both dogs are trained correctly then it won't be a problem. If either of the dogs is aggressive than they do not need to live together or they need to be trained properly before doing so. It sounds like your Jack Russel Terrier needs to be socialized more so it won't be so protective. Take it to obedience classes at PetSmart or another place in your area.

They should be fine. If your Jack Russel is a aggressive its your fault for not socializing him earlier. Its funny because everyone I ever run into that have aggressive dogs, never take them out of the house. Meaning dogs are not born socialized if you don't expose them to the outside world they become aggressive

you must establish that you are alfa dog and they will both be listening to you. first you have to address the overprotectiveness and then you wont have an issue between them just because one is big and one is small they should be able to get along with out any problems.
on tv theres a gut ceaser malon. He also has a web site.
hes on the national geographics channel.
good luck with your friends.

You are justifying her behaviour.. If she is being over protective, she is showing aggression or you wouldn't realize that she is over protective.. Protective is one thing.. Over protective means she is showing signs of aggression..
Spay them both, and introduce them, see how they do. There is no reason why the 2 breeds can't live together. But if you are fearful and wary of the situation, they'll pick up on it and they are likely to have problems right from the start.

I totally disagree with Jimmy, the terrier will own the pit bull. There are no flies on j.r.t's, tough little cookies, and he will run rings around the pit bull you just see!!

yeah it iis totally fine because a jack russell wants to be a pitbull so the pitbull will eventually teach it to be like it so or the jr would observe the pitbull. Yes they may fight like humans fight to but dont worry.

introduce them on nuetral grounds, both on leashes. Correct any agressive behavior. Make sure you love on both dogs starting with the one you've have the longest. watch their behaviors for any signs of trouble. As far a males with males, females with females, or male with female. I own 10 dogs they are all in the same yard and all get along fine. The breeds are as follows in order of age: APBT (female), Border Collie/wolf (female), Catahula Cur/lab (female), 2 collie/labs (both male), 2 Lab/rat terriers (both female), border/lab/collie/wolf (male), border/wolf/chow/austrialian shepard (female), APBT/collie/lab (male). All are currently intact (soon to be fixed)
I do strongly recommend fixing any dogs that you do not intend on breeding. If you do intend on breeding get informed it is a lot of work (I was talked into breeding 2 of my females for people who knew the dog and wanted puppies for herding cattle. Both of them are getting fixed as well as all the males)

well pit bulls do hav a tendancy to be agresive as long it was raised cacepting of other dogs you should be fine....but if your terrier does try to attack the pit bull that could make your pit more agresive
