I have 3 dogs, a Miniature Schnauzer, and 2 Miniature Dachsunds. I'm interested in buying bark collars for them, but I've used the Ultrasonic collars and they were worthless. I was thinking about trying the Citronella ones, but was curious is anyone had any luck with them. Please help, our neighbor is mad because the pups bark sometimes when we're not home! Thanks!!

I would definitely use other means if I knew what they were. How can I get them to not bark when I'm not home?

I agree that I don't want to put a collar on them, but our homeowner's association has rules about barking dogs. I understand it's their natural tendency to bark, but for where I live, I need to stop it. Any suggestions are welcomed. Thanks!

I've never heard of the electronic bark collars not working. Are you sure you have them on your dogs correctly?
The citronella collars work on some dogs, but not heavy duty all day type barkers. They don't mind the citronella and just bark until the cannister is empty. These collars are expensive, so you might want to borrow one and see if it works before going out and buying 3 of them. I use one on my dog on occassion. It works GREAT on him. He's at a point that just putting the collar on him keeps him from barking.
And, neither the electronic or citronella collar are cruel if you have a nusance barker. Neighbors will complain and may even harm your dog. The bottom line is you need to be a responsible pet owner and keep your dog from bothering the neighbors. If you don't....you'll find yourself faced with citations and the choice of controlling the barking or getting rid of the dog.

I've heard many great things about them but personally would NEVER use a bark colar. Would you like it if every time you tried to talk to your "Mommy" or "Daddy" you were shocked? I didnt think so. I'd tell your neighbor that when they start paying your bills they can complain about the occasional barking.
Bark colars are ment to be used in extreme situations where a dog barks ALL the time. If your dog doesnt bark constantly at all hours of the night, I dont recommend the bark colar. Barking is how they communicate and you dont want to punish them for saying they miss you while you are gone.

This is a very hard thing for you. Dog's bark, it's their way of telling you that something isn't right or when you are not home that whoever is walking past your house better not come in. That's a dogs job. As man likes to make laws and rules for everything in our lives they don't take into consideration that dogs don't understand that we don't like them barking for everything.

The smaller the breed, the more they bark, it's to make up for their size.

Personally, I would never put a collar on any of my 5 dogs to make them stop barking. I find that cruel.
