Calm down there, missy...
I am sure you enjoyed the Grimm Brothers' fairy tales and they weren't exactly nice, either...
Now, place this in context of the "immaculate conception", and finally, just finally, we get a bit of "consistency" shall we say, to the deviant behaviour of goD.
You really ought to feel sorry for this dude. Hanging around there on Cloud 9 every day, watching his boring children squabble, (not to mention the incessant moaning and groaning of prayers that simply NEVER end) and when you think about it --- where can goD go for therapy?
Instead of praying TO goD, maybe folks ought to pray FOR goD. I sent my personal goD on a two-week cruise last year, and that really made a HUGE difference. He's happier, more frisky and is back at "the ole' grindstone" with an ambitious list of new commandments...

Well acoring to the talumd (legail codes used by Jews from anicnt times onward) this only aplies if
A. The father of the woman gives her concent.
and
B. SHE gives her consent.
Why would she do so?
I assume that it alowed her to have a better chance of haveing chidern (since she might not find a husand ecle where now) or to make sure a child produced by rape was taken carfe of. I don't know.
However, I do know that this would have been the case under the second temple maby as far back as the frist. The point is at some point it stoped being *madatory*. If it ever was mandatory.

I can't speak with the authority of a Biblical scholar, but I believe that the whole point of this passage was that the woman, who would have been considered "damaged goods" had to be protected, and forcing her rapist to marry her also forced him to "protect" her by supporting her economically. Similarly, the money to the father would have been considered "compensation." By the standards of the time, this may have been more humane than any of the alternatives. Don't take any of the above to mean that I'm condoning rape. It is, however, a good argument against taking the Bible literally and trying to base our laws on it.

What if the rapist is already married? Was polygamy allowed at that time? This law has so many problems.
Given the Taliban-like atmosphere at the time, the legisators, not You-Know-Who, thought they were saving the victim's life. Otherwise, she would probably be stoned to death.
I wonder what 50 pieces of silver would buy at at the time. And would that encourage the father to expose his daughters to rapists? There are so many problems with that law.

Seriously...It is very unfortunate that it does not say "and the woman is free and clear to rip his manhood from his living body and grind it into baby food and feed it back to him" cause, that would have been way better of a deal when you just got raped.

Unbelievable. It's all about the man. And the "punishment" he's going to get. The welfare of the woman doesn't matter. Yes, truly sick.

I'm a Deist, and I think that ALL religions are a reflection of the time and place in which they developed, and this passage clearly illustrates that Judaism and Christianity are no exception!

God is Holy only someone who is evil would say or think God evil. That is OT anyhow. If you are on drugs get off of them if you are not on drugs get with the program.

Thanks. I'm going out to find me a $50 bride right now -- and I have scripture to back it up that it's approved by religion!
Ooh, I hope I catch one who has a mighty fine income.
