I have a JL Audio 250/1 Monoblock. My subs are JL W0's. Now, could I blow them? I've always been told to tuen it up, untill it starts soundlike like distortion, then its time to tuen it down. But i can never really tell. Ive also been told that you can see how much the cone is moving. if its moving to much, then you want to turn it down, but its hard to see the cone when it faces the abck of my truck.

any thought?

The gain on an amp is to set the amp to how much power the head unit is sending to the amp. 4 volts to .2 volts. And yes you can blow you sub, the distortion that you would hear is called clipping and is the amp trying to put out more than it can handle and make a square wave and causes the sub to over heat. And if is moving to much you would know when the smoke starts to some out. And if you send Sparky a e-mail and ask nicely he has a good program to set the gain on your amp so you do not clip the sub to death, Sparky is the top guy in yahoo car audio.

You can probably blow them if you let it distort too much.

You'll know when it's distorting....it sounds like mud...it's horrible. It goes from clean thumps and bass notes to ugghhhh...I hate distorted subs!

Some people run their subs distorted all the time. I can't stand it....it makes me want to pull out my hair.
