Make them garlic! Add a good hearty dose of garlic powder and white pepper. My husband also tosses in cheddar. Then with the leftovers I add a little sour cream, smear them in a pan, top with more cheddar and chopped parsley and bake it.
A nice spin on the garlic mashed potatoes is bacon gravy with a side of instant stuffing. It doesn't matter that it's semi-homemade, add a green salad and you've got a great dinner!

I love a good garlic mashed potato. One way of doctoring up instant potatoes:
Add a couple cloves of mashed or minced garlic in the potatoes, maybe a dash of Montreal steak seasoning, a little butter and sour cream. Yummo!

Make the instant potatoes according to the package directions. Stir in sour cream, chopped chives or green onions, shredded cheddar & bacon bits. You eat as-is or make mounds on a cookie sheet lined with foil & sprayed with cooking spray. Broil 2-3 minutes until brown & crispy.
Or stir in roasted garlic, extra butter & fresh chopped parsley.
Or make according to directions. Mound on cookie sheet as above & make an indentation in the center. Broil, fill with cooked broccoli & top with shredded cheddar & broil again until cheese melts (frozen broccoli in cheese sauce works well, also. Cook it 1st).

Well if you absolutely have to serve instant potatoes (mashed) im assuming, put some salt, pepper, and garlic powder in the water that you mix them with. Are you making gravy? Or is that instant too??

If its mashed potato, mix it with milk and butter - top with grated cheese and pop in oven to brown a bit. You can decorate with tomato slices.
Add a dressing to your salad or add chopped tomato and herbs to green veg ( peas or beans or sprouts).
Tinned potatoes - deep fry them, serve mixed with chopped onion and possibly bacon.

Why not make real mashed- it really doesn't take that much longer, and they are sooo much better. I like adding horseradish, or some cheddar cheese and bacon.
