can antone tell me why you cant drink when you are taking antibiotics,is this because it makes them inaffective or beacuse the alchohol has a bigger effect on you or is it something else

From what my doctor has told me, drinking alcohol will decrease effectiveness of the antibiotic

Actually both of thos reasons are correct. Also sometimes the reaction of the med and the alcohol can make you violently ill, even after you've stopped taking the med and up to 48hrs after. Just not worth it in my opinion!!

alcohol renders antibiotics useless. If you are going to drink, then don't bother with the antibiotics you waste your money,and of course don't get well either.

ok some antibiotics e.g metronidazole or trimethoprim can interact with alcohol and make you sick e.g vomiting headache change in the level of consciousness.
