Thats 293 mph. .177 is a standard size for bb guns. A pellet that small at that speed could do much harm or death if it struck the temple or the eye. A pellet could do more harm if it is shaped to penetratr, as you describe. NEVER point any weapon at anyone.

In answer to the second part of your question, you will most likely just p**s him off and he will then do things with your pellet gun that you would have previously thought not physically possible. A .177 caliber pellet at a velocity of only 430 fps does not have enough kinetic energy to do much serious damage. Calculate the muzzle energy of a pellet by taking the weight of the pellet in grains, multiply it by the velocity squared. Then take this number and divide it by 405,400. Then for camparison do the same thing using the muzzle velocity and bullet weight for something such as the little .22 rinfire. You will see that your little pellet is pretty weak when it comes to stopping a burgler. Either get a better gun or just save yourself a world of whup a** pain by just giving the burgler what he wants.

despite popular belief, a air gun pellet can be fatal, even at 430 fps. in fact, a 177 has more potential than it's 22 counterparts, higher velocity and deeper penetration. I'm not gonna give the science behind this, but a shot in the eye could hit the brain....... and there for could result in death.

even though it may be unlikely, it's still possible.

It can hurt eyes, ears, teeth and other soft areas seriously. A kill shot is unlikely although there is one way it could happen.

If you were shot where there is a vein/ artery near the surface of your skin (most likely your arms or neck) and the pellet penetrated the skin, there is a possibility it could get into your blood stream and lodge in your brain. It could kill you or cause part of your body to become paralyzed, similar to a stroke. If they catch it early, before it blocks anything off, they can do brain surgery to reverse the direction your blood flows so that it leaves your brain and lodges in another place in your body... even then it will cause you problems. My neighbors cousin was nearly killed just like this with a pellet gun and someone else I knows friend had the same problem although not a severe. Luckily they caught them both early enough so they don't have any serious lasting effects.

Seriously injure soft tissue Yes. The pellet can penetrate an eye, and or skin.

Kill someone? Highly unlikely. There isn't enough mass in the pellet to allow it deep tissue penetration, nor cause a hydrostatic shockwave to rupture organs.

0 a T4 is way to weak. you will need something more powerful. for the bare minimum in air pistols, id suggest a crosman 1377.

There is a 1 in 10,000 change that you little Co2 pistol is going to stop an intruder. 9,999 times out of 10,000 they are going to get pissed and either shoot you with their real gun or beat you with your pellet gun.

If you dont have a real gun to stop the robber, then hide.

i have a daisy powerline 880 it goes up to 750 fps. i use it to kill birds and rabbits and stuff. so i know for sure taht can kill and if you hit a person in the right spot it would kill(like the head). but it wouldn't have much stopping power anywhere else. if your going for home defense, get a 12 guage and use slugs.
