5 year old do not need an exercise routine per say. They are automatically full of enough energy and limber enough to keep every muscle in their body in shape. If your 5 year old is not active, then I suggest you take away things like computer time and tv time and gently bottom them outside to play. Get them involved with some neighbors who also have small kids. Take them to the park to romp on the swings, etc. Nowadays they have whole 'city park' ideas. We have one in our town called 'timber town' which is a whole park of things to climb and romp on and jump through, etc. The place is full of kids to meet and have contests with. If your child seems overweight, then he just needs more activity and a better diet that does not include sweets and carbohydrates so much but more fruits and vegetables and meats. 5 year olds need ' physical fun'. Any type of activity that allows them to have physical fun like swimming, biking, even sports for summer and winter, or recess time or park time, is all the exercise they need. Get them into a baseball league or soccer league in the summer and even junior basketball in the winter or on a swim team. Join the WMCA or YWCA.

Being a kid!!

No planned exercise routines are good for kids... instead encourage going outside. Riding a bike, taking swim lessons, playing soccer in the yard, going to the playground... those are the types of exercise for any child.
