In Matthews 6:5-6 it say’s
"And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.

Nope, the same goes with fasting, you are supposed to fast in secret, because you want too, not because you want glorification and praise from others.

I don't mean hide in your house, i just mean don't go up to all your friends and say 'hey I'm fasting, this is so hard"

Only you can answer that.

Do you not pray becasue you are embarrassed?...or because of the reason you gave?

You can bow and say a quick silent prayer when you eat out. I personally think that is a tremendous witness. They don't hear you but they know what you are doing.

My little 3 1/2 year old granddaughter loves to say the prayer when we eat out........and she says it LOUD....:-)

Sometimes people will tell her what a good job she did and we have never and a negative comment.

Anyway.......the call is yours, you know your heart. I think either way is ok

No, we all have our different way of praying, our relationship is different with Jesus. I love to show my love to God by my actions, but sometimes I forget to pray at night. I do admire people who know how to pray soo well that words just come out of their mouth to glorify the Lord, and they don't stop to think of what to say next... I'm not that great, I'd rather do it in my room or accompanied by my hubbie. It's up to you how you want to talk to him, I also love to sing his salms.

The hypocrites jesus was referring to were the pharisees, who were praying simply for the sake of looking good to those who thought they were truly spiritual.

The point isn't to pray silently to yourself. Pray honestly. Whether you choose to do that in the privace of your own heart, or outwardly, it doesn't matter.
