But why do so many people in the world believe in higher beings (gods, goddesses, or God, etc.)? Why do people insist their religion is the only one that makes sense, like there is only one God to believe in...

Why can't we just believe in ourselves? Isn't that enough?

ps. I don't mean any harm in asking this question, but I'm just curious to know why. I do not mean to offend anyone.

As to your first question, I personally think that each person hungers for a meaning to life that is above/beyond themselves.

Whatever meaning they find to fill that void is fine with me, as long as they don't hurt anyone else.

German Pagan here.

I have experienced that only the followers of the abrahamic believes (jewish, christians, muslims) think THEIR faith is the ONLY way to "heaven".
Other religions are more tolerant and will not fight over things like that.

Basically I think that humans needed always guidance, originally in things they could not understand fully.

In the old days that was simply for the lack of knowledge. Like why is that thunder shaking the mountain, and what does that lightning mean, etc. Why is this flood coming etc.

By now scientific research has proven that ALL (really all) human populations on this planet have a myth about a big flood long time ago. Really all people, wherever you look or ask on Earth.

That tells me there was a big flood on earth around 8000-10000 years ago, and it must have been so devastating and overwhelming, that the surviving people would come up with religious explanations.

Interesting that all people had various explanations WHY this flood came. But all said THAT it came.

I guess it is really comfortable to put up everything to "God". Especially the 3 abrahamics have learned that they are not responsible for anything. If they commit a crime, they can always put it on "the devil" who made them do evil things. Isn't that great??

And recently you could watch on TV how everyday-stuff was asked for by Big-Brother-Inhabitants ("oh Lord, please let me win this Power-of-veto-competition...").

I guess some simpler people feel just better with a "big daddy" in the back who they think protects them?

Your problem lies only with monotheists (who think there is ONLY ONE god, and conveniently that would be THEIR god, lol).

Pagans will not have an argument with your point, and I guess that Buddhists will accept your way of thinking as well.

Yes, you must believe in yourself, of course!
If that is enough, that's just fine! If you feel better with any deity you choose, that is just as fine.

I was raised in an atheist family and found my way to my faith as an adult. But that is just ME, it was right for me. Somebody else will have other experiences.

To me, my religion is very real, I feel I am having direct contact to my chosen deities.
That helps me in important decisions as well as in smaller not-so-crucial issues. I just feel re-assured when I get a feedback or advice. In my case this happens through mooncards and runes. It is just good for me to feel I am not alone in my questions, I feel guided.

But this is only for me. I would NEVER try to turn christians into followers of my personal gods/goddesses. That would be wrong. Everybody must find the truth for themselves, you must never put it over them.
Unfortunately the Abrahamics don't agree to that, that is why I don't like them too much.

Actually the belief in one's self and not a higher power (God or whatever) is one of the beliefs of Satanism. I can accept someone's belief (or nonbelief as the case may be) even though I don't understand it. You need to be true to yourself.

Can you Recreate your own Spirit?

That's what it Takes to make it to Heaven.
Only Jesus can Recreate our Spirits for us.
HE Created US in the first place.
Adam messed up his Spirit and passed that thing down to the Rest of Us.
