It may depend on the shepherd--most shepherds only reach 70-80 pounds, about the size of a large lab, but they can get much larger. We had one once that stood waist-high and weighed about 150 pounds (no fat!), though. If you know what the parents were like, you can base your decision on that, but I'd get the extra large. If nothing else, I rather have a cage that's a little too big than one that's too small.

You could if you started teaching her young enough. (I'm sorry if your dog is a male named Gretchen or intersexed and I'm mislabeling it as a girl). Just because she's German doesn't mean that she'll pick up German quickly; language isn't genetic, however, genetics DOES help. For example, I am a full breed Filipino Human, but because my parents didn't train me in Tagalog (the most common Filipino dialect) when I was younger, I still had a hard time in my Tagalog class in high school and still don't know the language! This is because I was raised in America. However, because I am full breed Filipino Human, I still did better than many of the mixed-bred people in my class. But why train her in German just because she's a German shepherd? That's some kind of racial-profiling there; maybe you should ask her what she wants. Plus, if she were not at least bilingual, it would make it harder for her to communicate with her English-trained peers. Good luck in whatever you choose, though.

You would need either large or extra large depending upon the size of your shepherd. I've seen some very large ones out there! I have two sizes of kennels for my rhodesians and oddly, my largest rhodesian prefers the slightly smaller kennel. They may prefer to feel more secure, so perhaps keep that in mind when choosing as well.

I have two german shepherds and I got a kennel that is 42"L x 28"D x 34" H. Good fit with enough room to circle around, stand up and lay down. Good luck.

I've just measured the length of my own b itch as she's lying here in her favourite position on her side, legs forward, head back! She takes up 4ft x 3ft in that position. What size is the extra large? I think I'd go for it anyway better too big than too small. My girl loves being outside too but we have a large covered area if she needs to shelter! Not that she uses it very often. lol.
Hope that helps!

If you can afford the extra large without too much trouble, you should get that. Most shepherds are very active outside and like to have space.

The largest kennel that you can! Dogs get bored and lonely during the day, when they are alone. Remember they were once pack animals. Make sure he has lots of toys

Simple. Measure him lying down then add 4inches for length. height should be again + 4 inches. width half length. entrance should be height to shoulders and 1 inch wider than his chest.
Get these measurements then check makes etc that come closest but not under his measurement.
Having said that don´t be surprised if he never uses it. If he´s uncomfortable outside in the open, he´ll let you know he wants in, which he probably already does. IT NORMALLY TAKES A GSD ABOUT TWO WEEKS TO TRAIN THEIR HUMANS.

If you have to kennel him you should get the biggest kennel there is !
You should also make sure that he has a dry place to sit on when it is wet outside otherwise he is prone to get rheumatism when he is older !

I would go for an extra large to ensure plenty of room for turning around and standing up. it will also alow plenty of room for any bedding or toys you wish to add
