maybe the bulb cant take the freezing temperature

It has to do with design more than anything, some freezers do have lights. At the outside maybe because the bulb gives off too much heat. Most appliance bulbs are 40 watt incandescents.

because it's not so large as the fridge?
my side by side has a light in the freezer too.
