No, you will create a whole group of home growers and there will be an even bigger underground market than there is currently for all other drugs. It will be like prohibition, and a new class of "criminals" will emerge.
If you do not like tobacco, don't use it. Your personal freedoms do not trump mine.

I don't think it would work. People would either grow their own or else, they will find some other way to get it.
Unfortunately, tobacco is BIG business and that in itself makes it very unlikely to ever become a thing of the past.
It is true, adults who smoke do so
being aware of the health risks.
I used to smoke, and I really enjoyed it, but at the end of the day I am healthier without it.
Smoking is a controversial subject, and it is up to each individual to make that decision for themselves. It is dangerous,it kills. It causes several types of cancer, heart disease, emphysema, birth defects. My mom passed away from lung cancer caused by smoking.
But the only person you can make that decision for is you, you can't just stop growing tobacco and tell people not to smoke. Those who are addicted and / or stubborn will always find a way to obtain it until they are ready to quit for themselves.

First of all... I want to make it clear I am not a smoker.....Forcing someone to stop smoking is not the answer. We live in a country that is suppose to allow us to have free will so that we can lead our lives how we see fit.. If we force people to stop smoking then what is next, drinking, eating? Drinking so that we dont have no drunk drivers, so that our children are safe??? Eating is and addiction as well. So would you have someone who is over weight and addicted to food stop eating.. I am trying to make a point. No I dont approve of smoking however I do approve of freedom of choice. I choose not to smoke others choose to smoke.. that is their right. However I would like to see it where if you do not smoke and do not want to be exposed to that, it should be ok to ask a smoker not to blow that nasty stuff in your face or your childrens face. We all have our choices. I donot allow smoking around my children.. nor do I drink around my children. Those are my choices....
I do not do illegal drugs either, and yes they are illegal but what about the people that are addicted to prescription drugs.. those are actually provided by their doctor and he knows that the person may be addicted. There was a 2 year injured over this past weekend because her father was carrying her on the top, yes the top of a stroller.... She fell onto concrete and was injured but is doing fine... her father had been taking a prescription pain killer... There are no right and wrong choices.... its just call good judgement..

The government tried this in the 1930's with alcohol. It did not stop people from drinking, they just bought the bootlegged alcohol, so the government let people drink, but taxed it. They are doing the same with cigarettes. The federal government collects over $2 billion a year in ciggy taxes. Impossible for the government to give that up.

That is an interesting question. If the goverment quit subsidizing tobacco growing, there would be less profit, if the tobacco lobbies were not so vast and strong, we would have less of this deadly , addictive substance available. But it would not lessen the individuals addiction to tobacco.

I believe smoking is haram because it is addicting. Anything that can cause you to ignore your rational conscious should be haram: obviously smoking only hurts your body, as well as others. Rationally, no normal person would do these things. People say they smoke because it relaxes you. If you need physical stimulants to "relax" you, you should have a go at spiritual ways instead, such as prayer and dikr. This not only gives you blessings, but helps you without the compensation of hurting yourself and others. You do not need outside sources to calm yourself and make yourself feel good unless your doctor prescribes something for you, such as for depression. Otherwise, you are just acting weak and turn to the easy ways to make yourself feel better, rather than the correct ways. And I don't mean "you," I just mean people who smoke. :) peace

As a past smoker, I can attest to the fact that you must want to quit smoking, then have the will power to quit. P quit cold turkey. Not planting tobacco will not work, the person will just grow their own/
