well its important to be on time to work if thats what you mean. To be on time shows responsibility and dedication while being late (habitually) shows the opposite

Also, it is simply unhealthy to be late. It causes stress

If you make an appointment with someone and you show up late, it appears that you think your time is more important than theirs, that is very insulting.

When you do this at work you are telling your boss or your customers your time is more important than theirs. Since your boss is paying for your time he is not getting his moneys worth and it is ample justification for termination.
