one of my favorite verses in the bible:
Psalms 37 :11 "The meek ones themselves will possess the earth and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."
How beautiful! Almost too grand to imagine!

so, that tells me, without a doubt, that the earth will remain

now you said the 'world'--meaning , I'm sure, worldly desires, worldly thoughts, and actions.
different story there!
the bible says this :Proverbs 2 : 21,22 --
"For the upright are the ones that will reside in the earth, and the blameless are the ones that will be left over in it. As regards the wicked, they will be cut off from the very earth: as regards the treacherous, they will be torn away from it."

the wicked, the treacherous, would be individuals that you could call "worldly" --those not following divine direction

The world as in that being the Earth, YES. The system we are in will not and Jehovah's system will come into play finely. Adam put this system into play by listening to Eve, Eve listening to Satan's lie about Jehovah. They knew better but ate from the tree anyway. That's what put Satan in the position he is in now.

The Bible says the meek will inherit the Earth so that shows the Earth does not explode, nor do humans die out. Even in Noah's day, 8 people survived. There will be a # too large to count that survive this last earth wide cleansing.

The earth will, but this system of things won't.

1 John 2:17
Furthermore, the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever. (World, in this sense, meaning system)

The bible was written when mankind was illiterate and superstitious. It has nothing valid to say about the life and death of planetary bodies.
