someone just posted this, its what they think an atheist would say to introduce themself at a door-to-door 'preaching' of atheism.

' I think they would start something like this -

"Hi I'm Tony and I'm arrogant and full of pride and basically an idiot who can't believe in anything I can't see." '

isnt it against 'God's will' to be rude and offensivly critical of other people? hasnt this so called Christian ever heard of 'love thy neighbour' ?? calling someone an arrogant idiot is just not nice in my opinion, and if I believed in God and followed Christian teachings id never say anything like this, especially unprovoked

im not trying to start an arguement, i just dont understand!!

oh and by the way, i dont for a fact KNOW that this person is a Christian, i just assumed which i know is wrong but i can safely say this is just an example, i have seen a lot of rude Christians, of whom i knew for a fact were Christian.

I rec'd an email the other day, one of those ranty things, saying that the founding fathers wanted America to be a Christian nation... It was this one: http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/capital.asp

But, someone had tacked this onto the end of it:

"How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?

Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was built on.

I was asked to send this on if I agreed or delete if I didn't. Now it is your turn...

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or "In God We Trust" on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the other 14% to Sit Down and SHUT UP!!!"

I replied with the snopes link, then added that, in my family, the words 'Shut Up' are considered swearing (my son thought that that was 'the S word'). That we teach the kids that listening to others ideas and beliefs shows respect for them and allows us to learn & grow.

Sigh... I wish that good people, people who I know are good in their hearts, would think before they speak - think about the worth of other people & value that worth as much as their own. I'm pretty sure that that's what their god would want them to do.

A Christian is still human, Bex, with flaws and faults just like the next. We sin everyday, and should repent everyday. As Christians, we shouldn't judge at all. I don't know of the question you speak of, but is it possible it came across demeaning, or open for jeering? Just a suggestion. You said you can't be sure the person is a "Christian," well, maybe he isn't, and your perceptions of Christians cause you to judge how so-called Christians are. Not all Christians that proclaim to be Christians are. There are mean ppl in ALL divisions of religion, the key is to educate yourselves on the principles of them to define what makes a true ______(fill in blank with what ever religion).

They are just immature. Jesus told us to be wise as serpents, yet gentle as doves. Not clueless as doves and hostile as serpents.

Wouldn't it have been better for them to ask, "What is it that makes you feel there is no God?" or "How then do you explain the fact that you are a living soul?" Basically, to honestly challenge your belief system for thought and general debate. When you answer, just say, "I see where you are coming from. I don't agree, of course, but I can understand your view."

It is usually the new or immature Christian (or even impostors that are part of cult sects) that will lambaste you in a rude way. They need to be seen with a level of understanding that these are but children having a spiritual tantrum. It is not to be taken personally. But it does happen. Even to me.

Some Christians are quick to judge and they think they are better than others. The truth is that we are all sinners and we all make TONS of mistakes. Some Christians get the impression that the longer they have been Christians the better they are. I am a Christian and I have had other Christians judge me. It hurts but I pray that they will realize what they are doing wrong and I also pray that I wont judge others. Not all Christians are the same.

What you are really asking is "How can a Christian sin?". I ask myself that quite a lot--I'm supposed to know better, right? But do you ever do anything that you know you're better off not doing? The Church is not a haven for Saints but a hospital for sinners. Anyone who is already without flaw needs no salvation.

Know anyone who has never, never at all, under any circumstances, acted in anything less than the utmost perfect way?

You likely already know this but just because someone calls themselves a Christian doesn't make it so. Look to Jesus' parable about the farmer sowing seed for the next harvest.
"Some seed shall fall amongst the weeds and be strangled".
This is the word reaching some folks who follow for a time but are ensnared by sin.
"Some seed was cast on rocky soil and grew quickly but was scorched by the sun".
This means that others shall take hold of the word and follow for a time but when times of trouble come they shall fall away from the faith for their faith is not deeply rooted.
"Some seed fell on good seed and prospered".
This deals with true believers who hold fast to the word and behave as true Christians.
Hope that helps a bit.

I don't take too much offense at the statement as I understand the "christian" thought about atheists. Granted, not all Christians think this way about atheists but the "pride/arrogant" and "can't believe in anything I can't see" are common mis-perceptions.

Christians can be rude like everyone else. There is no banning of rudeness that can't be overlooked for the sake of religion. If you can kill someone in the name of your religion, and have it be ok, then why would rudeness be an issue?

I think the whole premise of their question is odd, though. Why would an atheist ever go out door-to-door preaching?

Yes, that was very rude and a person who calls himself or herself a Christian should not be saying that. The Christian should recognize that posting something like this is a sin against God and his or her fellow man. The Christian should ask for forgiveness.

Its okay dear - that person is obviously "not a real Christian."

Psssshaw. Ive got some other Christian guy writing me, accusing me of being a hypocrite, when really it all boils down to him misunderstanding what I said in a posting, and again misreading what I wrote back in an email. When I point this all out to him, he has the audacity to tell me that he doesnt think Ive pointed out any hypocrisy, and that he does not feel the need to apologize for assuming that which I never said.

Thats typical.
