I guess it is a compromise as the ice cream has to be a bit melted, but the chocolate shell must maintain its integrity?

I like to eat the chocolate off of mine first and enjoy the ice cream by itself, so melting is definitely not what I go for.

BTW, Curious Orange, I didn't realize that folks in the UK refer to them as choc-ices. Around here(Michigan, USA) we usually call them ice cream bars, though, when I was much younger, many also referred to them as paddle pops- and my mom still does!

Depends on the choc ice. Different brands will use different ice ceam with different melting points. Ahh physics, my old friend.

?????? No idea. just eat them after you get back from the shops with them, they are normally melted sufficiently by then.
