To own one, I think is 18, but better check with your local authorities. To but one from an FFL dealer [gunshop] you have to 18 for rifles and shotguns, and 21 for handguns and their ammo.

Check with your state's attorney general. Federal law states that you must be 18 to buy a rifle or shotgun and 21 to buy a handgun FROM A LICENSED GUN DEALER. Your state law may not have those restrictions. Here in NJ I bought a number of handguns from other people before I was 21. The federal law only prohibited me from buying from a federally licensed gun dealer. This "age 21" restriction is unConstitutional anyway. If you are a legal adult at age 18, why is it that you can't buy a gun or a drink? This is a dangerous precedent because if they can get away with 21 then what stops them from taking the age limit to 35, or 65? If they can restrict one Constitutional right what about the others? Age 45 to vote? Age 30 for free speech?

I imagine that if you should inherit a gun collection you own it no matter how old you are, unless of course some of the rifles etc. are illegal to own. As far as buying them, I guess you'd have to be old enough to take a hunter safety course and get a permit to buy them. Not much to hunt in Florida anyhow is there?

You can OWN one at whatever age your legal guardian decides to give you one. To buy one on your own you must be 18 for long arms and 21 for handguns.

depends on the gun in question. muzzleloader, rifle, or shotgun you have to be 21. for a handgun you gotta be 23. it sucks i know, but that just the way it is.
