well Iran is playing on the fact that the US is now weak. We're being told daily that we're losing in Iraq, that we should surrender, that we should run scared. This is exactly what Iran, North Korea, terrorists want to hear. The US has become to weak to defend itself and is in political turmoil - why wouldn't they play on this?

Could swear I asked this same question on a different thread. But since this is so "original" I thought I'd answer this very familiar question:
Our enemies know Americans are quick to protest war, so, they use that as their strength. They spout out scare tactic after threat, in the hopes the American Public will rise up & pressure their politicians. That started with Viet Nam. Now it's Iraq. Iran is afraid of USA military might, so, why not sound off and try to scare as many as possible?

Iran isn't scaring the American public but the Administration and the jingoists are making every attempt at doing just that in order to gain support for escalating the war in the Middle East to include Iran.

Is there a question about Iran there somewhere? Funny, but I don't read any questions in your question? Maybe a third grade text book would help you, or the Bible, New Testament hopefully, you know story of Jesus, or even a tiny speck of thoughtfulness without emotional bushisms!
If you like war, join the Army and volunteer for the job of first Troop into Iran.
Then you will surely see the light!

Let us put it this way - Americans get scared thinking Iran is scaring them, and Iran is accused of indulging in that act thinking that it is threatened by America!

No ****, they also know are tactical situation as well. The American public is weary of war so they saber rattle and the American public lets itself get browbeat into submission. They know the US people better then our own government.

I think you have it incompletely stated.
I think a more accurate statement would be:
"Iran is standing up to America in a bluff of force and threat, to assert itself as a regional power, and the American government is using that to scare its own people into further submissive behavior on the basis of fear, so that it can take aggressive steps to blunt Iran's bid for power".
So it's the usual global push and shove but unlike FDR, who said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself", the current administration really wants us to fear fear.
And they have been very successful into turning the most powerful and best-armed nation on earth into the most fearful nation on earth.
One reaps what one sows after all.
