Because labeling them as "mentals" is too judgemental. Who are we to say that their belief is a result of a mental problem rather than being plain stupid? Since when is stupidity a crime? Last time I checked it was the right of every human to be as stupid as they want... as horrible as it may seem.

Although, I cannot agree that all fundies are mental - most of them prove themselves to be, but some are just ignorant and misled.
