...doesn't it mean that we could sin as much as we liked and we'd still make it to heaven? If so, what's the point of this life if we aren't accountable for our own actions?

We are acountable and we do earn the death penalty.
God in his mercy has paid that penalty and through the atonement we are by faith made new and in agreement with God's righteousness.
We do not serve sin we are new creatures.
Those who serve sin are not saved and are under law.

Very incorrect.

Yes, all humans, good or bad, do ascend to the next higher Heaven and then receive loving judgment and their status level according to the fruits of the Spirit that they had and used down here.

Jesus Christ gives five more talents to the five talents utilized well here, ten more talents for the ten done well here, and so on. Those who have, receive more; those who have not; have that which they have taken away from each of them. Grok ? :))

God's and Jesus' love and mercy are infinite; but it is a terrible sin to knowingly presume upon the divine mercy. Count the costs. Those who really know and love God would NEVER want to sin willingly. True liberty results in peace and joy and righteousness; false liberty is a delusion that yields darkness and death.

Many good answers here; are you listening now in Spirit and in Truth ?

Hi....A very good question and a difficult one to answer. This is my opinion and I consider myself as a Christian. Yes..Jesus died for our sins however I believe that we as humans or Christians in our faith are responsible for our own actions and for the sins that we commit. The Catholic Church believes and practices in their religion and faith that one can commit two types of sins. The first sin is the Venial sin in which an individual unintentionally commits a sin without knowing of it's harm. Such as gossiping. If one commits a Venial sin then that individual can ask God for His forgiveness without the assistance of a priest. Now God may frown on the individual that has comitted the venial sin but He is all a Forgiven God. Now, the most severe of all sins is the Mortal sin in which this sin was comitted intentionally. Such as breaking one of God's laws or Ten Commandments. For example committing a murder or stealing or adultery. Even the thought of doing one of these acts is a Mortal sin according to Gods word. Now when one commits a mortal sin, one needs to seek a priest to ask God for His forgiveness. If one doesn't seek a priest for this particualr sin then this individual would be condemned to Hell for all eternity. Now this is how the Catholics believe in their faith which makes perfect sense to me and I'm not a Catholic. However I do believe in some of the things that they practice in their religion. Now I also believe that God will forgive our sins if we are sincere when asking Him. And if we don't continue to perform the same sin over and over again. I feel that God has His limitations on how many times He's going to forgive the same sin but I could possibly wrong on this thought, it's just my own opinion. Have a very blessed day!

In the Old Testament, the people were required to shed blood for the forgiveness of sin. When you look back to the OT, you see God required the blood of animals depending on the sin...

Christ died and shed His blood to provide a pre-sacrifice, if you will, for all the sins that would ever be committed for the rest of time. Thus, we no longer sacrifice animals. We are, however, REQUIRED to have an active part in our salvation. It isn't automatic.

To repent, we must TRULY be convinced that we are a sinner, that our sin is disobedience to God, and that we want our lives to be under the authority of God, not lived for our own selfish desires.

If you say "God forgive me" then you go right back to sinning, you didn't really repent, and without true repentance there is no forgiveness of sin.

Sorry but thats not the way it works.
The reason Jesus died on the cross is indeed for the forgiveness of sins.
However, (yes there is a but) you must honestly repent of your sins and desire to live a good life and strive to live in a way to honor God. He knows your human and will fall sometimes but that doesn't mean he'll excuse you for purposely sinning believing you can just say "I'm Christian!". Doesn't work that way.
Say for example:
You go about the world and eventually you find yourself in a pickle. You have just broken a law in another country and the penalty is death. In comes Jesus and says "I have paid this persons ransom! Let them go!" This is when you honestly repent of your sins and wish to live in a way that will honor Jesus.
If you however, go about life expecting Jesus to save you from the judgement and so keep sinning you'll be rudely surprised. You'll be in the courtroom and the judge shall say, "You are guilty and sentenced to death". Jesus won't bust through the doors to save you. You may say "Wait! I am a Christian!" They'll call Jesus and he'll say "I do not know this one!".
We shouldn't abuse the gift that is Jesus our Lord.
Later days and sorry for the speech...

I think this is a very good question, it seems since most Christian's believe that Jesus died for them they can do as much sin as they want and then just ask God to forgive them as an ex christian I was told every time you sin that Jesus goes through the painful torment of his sacrifice so if you guys believe that and you guys say you love Jesus like you say you do then why do you like to sin?

I think you have a very good topic here :).

The complete Gospel includes "Christ in you, the hope of glory." And Jesus changes the life so "the kingdom of God is within you." You can live the heavenly lifestyle here.

Some people think the grace of God is a license to continue in sin, but Jesus started His mission with the words, recorded in Matthew 4:17" "From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

Repent means to be sorry for and turn from. Judas was sorry he got caught and things didn't work out the way he supposed. His repentance was worthless because it didn't work a reformation in his life.

Jesus never let sins go unreproved. He flipped the thieving priests money-tables, called them names, and told the paralytic: "sin no more unless something worse happens to you."

There is a judgment day for transgressors, and a Bible code tells the timing of the cosmic conflict. see: http://abiblecode.tripod.com

youve got it backwards girl ! jesus died for our sins .... u know what lets take it back . in the "olden days" people used to pffer up a sacrifice for their sins ( dove, lamb, sheep, whatever) and then their sins would be taken away through the blood of the lamb. well peopl started to abuse that (much like what you just stated about sining all u want) by sining al the time and just offering up a sacrifice for it later. well this didnt sit well with the man upstairs cuz he knew sooner or later he would have to come down in the form of a man to tell people the gospel of salvation. salvation or being saved means you totally give your life to God because you dont want to sin any more. this is why he died on the cross for us he used himself as a "sacrificial lamb" to once and for all make a sacrifice for our sins. when he died on the cross Jesus actually when to the gates of hell and took the keys of death, hell, and the grave from satan - When jesus took the keys it meant that we could be free from sin, if we wanted to . many peopl dont want to and so they sin - meaning they wont make it to heaven. But when you make a choice to serve the lord, and live for the one who died on the cross for your sins, when you recieve the holyghost then you make it into heaven. ♥

Many Christians believe just that. Have you ever sen the bumper sticker; "Christians aren't perfect...just forgiven"? Isn't that stating that they sin but don't have to worry about any retribution? I think it does. You've asked a good question!

It's been explained to me that once you know about Jesus, that is when the clock is ticking. In other words, prior to the knowledge of what Jesus was, you won't be held accountable for what you do. Once you've accepted him though, every sin is another strike on his body on the cross. We are all accountable for what we do. Accepting Christ means accepting his way of life. It's not easy in todays world, but it can be done. I hope this helps.

This question was asked yesterday...and the answer is still the same.

Even though you can do something doesn't mean you should.

We are held accountable for our actions as Christians. There is a second judgment where we will have some splainin' (explaining) to do.

Paul also talked about this in 1 Cor. 3:16 Don't you know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that person, because God's temple is holy and you are that temple.

18 Do not fool yourselves. If you think you are wise in this world, you should become a fool so that you can become truly wise,19 because the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. It is written in the Scriptures, "He catches those who are wise in their own clever traps."[b]20 It is also written in the Scriptures, "The Lord knows what wise people think. He knows their thoughts are just a puff of wind."[c]21 So you should not brag about human leaders. All things belong to you:22 Paul, Apollos, and Peter; the world, life, death, the present, and the future—all these belong to you.23 And you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.

1 Cor. 6:12 "I am allowed to do all things," but not all things are good for me to do. "I am allowed to do all things," but I will not let anything make me its slave. 13 "Food is for the stomach, and the stomach for food," but God will destroy them both. The body is not for sexual sin but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.14 By his power God has raised the Lord from the dead and will also raise us from the dead.15 Surely you know that your bodies are parts of Christ himself. So I must never take the parts of Christ and join them to a prostitute!16 It is written in the Scriptures, "The two will become one body."[a] So you should know that anyone who joins with a prostitute becomes one body with the prostitute.17 But the one who joins with the Lord is one spirit with the Lord.
18 So run away from sexual sin. Every other sin people do is outside their bodies, but those who sin sexually sin against their own bodies.19 You should know that your body is a temple for the Holy Spirit who is in you. You have received the Holy Spirit from God. So you do not belong to yourselves,20 because you were bought by God for a price. So honor God with your bodies.
