we are looking at buying a 2 year old boston,
he is not neutered, he is white with black spots so he does not have the "normal" boston markings.
i just wanted to know what a reasonable price would be for him to make sure we don't pay to much.
thanks!

It really varies a lot. I'd look at how much he is worth to you.

He's not a puppy and he's not a show dog or breeding quality, so he shouldn't be worth thousands. I'd guess anywhere between $50-$500.

I'd also want to know who his breeder was and what kind of health tests she did on the parents. This way, you'll know what the likelihood is that the dog will develop genetic diseases in a few years that could cost you thousands.

Also, look into how well trained he is. Maybe it doesn't matter to you, but this is one of the benefits of buying/adopting an older dog. They're not as much work as a puppy and are more practical for busy people.

For me, I wouldn't pay $500 for such a dog, but I don't think it would necessarily be overpriced. Personally, I might pay as much as $300 if I really wanted an adult Boston Terrier.

Good luck!

ADD: From what you say, this dog might suffer seriously from genetic diseases that you may have to pay a lot for in the future. I'd agree with around $150 tops... But, then again, I still say "What is it worth to you?"

If you get the dog, I'd recommend looking into veterinary pet insurance. I'm not recommending it... there's still a lot of controversy about whether it's a good idea. And I think I've heard some insurance doesn't cover genetic disorders. But I would look into the possibility.

They are a very intelligent and affectionate breed. Companions from a reputable breeder seem to range from about $650-800 while show dogs are around $950 and up but yours could be a bit cheaper if he waas rescued(i dont really see why if he is good tempermant)so a good offer would be anything from $200 to $800 or if he is a show dog $900 to $1000. there are a lot of "puppy mills" out there that aren't responsible breeders. This can cause sad long-term health issues. Your puppy, should you choose to get one, should have CERF testing (eyes) and OFA Patella certification(knee). There is also a Baer test for hearing, which is offered less frequently. Be aware that dogs with too much white or blue eyes are more likely to have hearing problems. It is really nice if you can meet the dog's parents to see their temperament but obviously you cant. Again, these are great dogs...good luck to you. Hope this helps

Is this from a rescue group? A responsible rescue would have him neutered and fully vetted before they adopt him out. I wouldn't buy this dog from an individual who is trying to make some money.

I adopted a healthy 2 year old female Boston from a rescue group. The fee was $250.

Look here for other homeless bostons:

Check out http://www.petfinder.com

There are a ton of homes Bostons across the country (and they're already spayed and neutered, too)

At petfinder, you can compare the price of saving a life with buying a life.

Good luck!

___________

If she's a rescuer, she should neuter the dog prior to placement. That (in addition to vet checks, boosters, etc.) is normally included in the adoption fee. Email me offlist and I'll compare some adoption fees for you if you'd like.

You need to be very careful in these situations. Are you prepared for very high vet expenses? Inbreeding causes terrible problems that will be expensive and heartbreaking in the future. If the dog is speutered and has all shots, and comes with having been fully vetted, and has no temperament problems, then I might consider it. But, the dog's markings should be the least of your concerns! Adoption fees for dogs are usually less than $200.

Why would you want to sell her? Plus papers dont mean anything now a days, there are mixed breeds with papers these days. At two years old, youd only be able to ask a nominal adoption fee (80$) maybe.

It would vary on location, pedigree, sex, and if it has shots.
