The advantages of 240v/50Hz is that it requires less power to operate devices whereas the one in Unites States has more power to operate as the energy given to electrons is lesser in case of 120v/60hz. However the frequency tackles the problem to little extent. The advantage of the 120v/60Hz is that it can be transferred to an optimum level to long distances with short loss in power and thats why Americans get uninterrupted power supply over 24 hours whereas in Malaysia there's some power cuts but not often due to better transfer techniques used.

When you run electricity through wires at a higher voltage it is much more efficient. One reason being heat loss as mentioned above. The reason being that the resistance in the wire is constant so as the voltage increases the current drops and current is what causes heat production in resistors. The U.S. has deemed that 240V isn't safe to have coming through outlets in residential settings so they take on the losses in exchange for less deadly voltages. The frequency more of an arbitrary thing and were just chosen differently to begin with and are now too difficult to change. Much like the metric and english measuring systems....

1)Advantage only Cable size can be reduced in 240volts because current will be 1/2.

2) In safety point of view if anybody Electrocuted the fatality will be more chance in 240volts
3) Any domestic appliances in 120v operation size may be less in some cases
4)50Hz, generator design, it is not at all effecting individual(the speed of the generator will be lesser than 60 Hz generator NS = 120F/P)

240v advantages:
1-Less voltage drop
2-In 240v we need less current for loading
3-Less current decrease crass section of wires
Disadvantage of 240v
1- safety is less than 120v
2-in 240v Insulation level for wire and equipment are more than 120v
3-Cost of distribution and equipment is more than120v

Less flow, so less heat loss........

Disadvantage is it is more dangerous :-)
