do you suppose we'd ever hear the end of it from certain religious groups? do you think they'd be screeching like monkeys about it?

We would be strung up and burned alive if we even attempted it.

(sarcasm....kind of)

I think it would defeat part of the purpose of atheism. Why? Because it would be teaching religion and then saying not to believe it. The alternative is to simply not believe it in the first place. Learning to stop believing in false religions is not something that should come about from being pressured. It comes from being educated and learning the truth about the world around us, much truth that has only been accessible to us recently because of science.

Should the people in the late 1400's have gone door to door and tried to pressure people into believing that the world was not flat? No. People could learn this through advancements in science, technology, and documented exploration of the world.

I'd LOVE it if an atheist came knocking on my door and actually wanted to have a conversation!

What I find annoying is the people who come knocking, ask a couple of questions that they answer themselves, and then bolt in the opposite direction when they find out I'm a mormon.

Honest, respectful conversation is not dangerous.

That would be a hard sell.

I mean all you would be doing is going:

Are you religious?

Reply: Yes I am.

It's not true.

Reply: Door closes.

Seriously I don't think it's something that could be marketed door to door.

Religious knockers use the "Have you heard the good word of?" tactic, instantly turning it into a question.

it may be ok in the event that they delivered alongside some thing useful or exciting to grant away alongside with the atheism. Like holidays to Cancun or some thing. If Christians did that, there could be a good purchase greater Christians. a minimum of till the holidays in Cancun have been over.

I would fully count on having people react with violence.
I saw a video of someone who actually did that as an experiment. He was just as nice and polite as the religious evangelists. And yes, people hit him. If I can find a link to the video, I'll post it.

Oh...I see Knyghtzero already got it...

I don't know, I'd slam the door in their faces just like anyother door knocker.

But if I had to guess the other group would put forth more of an effort

The holies think it's their sacred duty to bring in as many contributers as possible. They don't expect a cut out of the contributions , but they do expect a better seat in "heaven" .
Even if they wouldn't scream about it , I won't go door to door . I don't care what they worship , how much time they loose in church going and praying , or how much they give to keep the "father" out of jail .

*Ding-dong*

Hello, sir or ma'am, I'm a member of the local Atheist church and I would like to tell you about nothing. Nothing does not love you and does not have any "wonderful" plans for your life. Nothing did not die for your sins and nothing isn't really capable of caring about sin at all anyway. Would you like to accept nothing as your own personal non-savior?

If its OK, I would like to leave you this pamphlet that you can look over so that you will be able to learn more about what we believe in.

Yes, sir or ma'am, I know the pamphlet is full of blank pages, its supposed to be that way.

The case of those mentally deprived religious freaks are hopeless. Their illness is terminal, no one wants to be knocking at their door and waste precious time. Rather be doing other more meaningful things namely, disbelieving in God.

The religious are hypocrates... they preach to everyone and anyone that will listen. But if an atheist were to do the exact same thing, they'd complain and scream from the rooftops!
