Rather than the weird ingredients which most cookbook recipes ask for, like cider or a single chilli. I want a cookbook which contains recipes using ingredients I always have at home, instead of weird ingredients I have to go out of my way to buy.

There was a book called 'The Fast Food Vegetarian' that had loads of recipes for stuff to make from odd tins of things you had hanging around.

But most people actually like getting fresh things to make meals with - why not just pop a chilli in your basket the next time you are out?

It can be so much fun to try new tastes and new ideas out - you don't have to just stick to the same things you have always eaten (or is this my cousin Jim.... only eats gammon when out to eat - and I mean that VERY literally! Hi Jim!!)

I learned to cook with the Betty Crocker book and the Better Homes & Gardens cookbook. Not too much weird stuff in there.

My favorites include the trio of books by Sarah Kramer: How It All Vegan The Garden of Vegan La Dolce Vegan I just picked up "The Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes Cookbook" which I've already made a few things from and they are all superb. I think this one might be a new fave. I have "Vegan Fusion World Cuisine" and I haven't yet made anything from it yet but it is the most beautiful cookbook I've laid my eyes on. A lot of people say "Veganomicon" and "Vegan with a Vengeance"...I have both and have made a ton of things from those books and they all turn out lackluster, so I rarely use them anymore. : (

For the last 15 years I've sworn by my copy of Hamlyn New All Colour Cookbook. They've updated it more recently, and the latest version is rubbish. The ISBN of the version I recommend is 0-600-32640-3

hmmm.. a true cook. LOL There are a lot of wonderful spices & herbs, and other "weird" ingredients. You're missing out. It's hard to say what you consider weird, so can't possibly recommend a cookbook that would suit your needs.

The best book i have is "The Taste of Home Cookbook." It has tons of everyday recipes for your family faves and interesting new ideas. Nothing fancy, just stuff you already use.
