It was simple to me, the diaper was harder to get on baby and mainly (No joke intended) it seemed as if his butt was too big to fit in the diaper. The cheeks didn't have superior coverage. And the diaper kind of rode down and looked low on the pelvic area. When it starts to become a 'low rider' that's not good for pee/poop coverage. Leaks and 'blowouts' (eww) start happening.
Basically it just seems harder to get on and position, and doesn't look like it's covering as much.
P.S. don't go entirely by those sizes on the package, they weren't always the case for my son. It's say up to 25 lbs, he'd be 18 lbs and wouldn't fit well (and he's skinny)
Good luck!

I found that mine were more likely to have leaks if the diapers were too large. I knew they were too small when I could not fasten them comfortably around the baby. I used cloth, but always had a pack of disposables around in case I got lazy with the laundry. I found that the disposables leaked much more frequently than a good cloth diaper.

With my boys it was always the leaking and trying to fit it just right. Also if I noticed any rub marks I would move up to the next size. I don't go by the size on the package because according to them my 2 1/2 year old should be in a 3T pullup and he needs a 4T and he is an average size kid.

If it is making marks on the babies skin, chances are he/she has outgrown it. Also, size of diaper should not have an impact on the protection. I went through 3 types of diapers until I finally had to choose Pampers. That was the only kind that worked.

go by the weight, but too big can lead to leaks as well. diapers are different on all babies, my oldest was always in age older sizes, but weight size was correct, my youngest was always in age younger but again weight was right...find ones that fit around the tummy, fit around the legs, and that "move" with him. get the kind that have the "strechy velcro" fasteners, they seemed to allow ours to grow into and through without much problems .. ps..if you are afraid of leaking..they have "diaper covers" they are kinda plastic undies to help prevent leaks

Weigh him..the diaper box will have the weight limits on it so you know the right size...some diapers just aren't right for your kids body. I use huggies because pampers always leek with my kids. My friend uses pampers cuz the don't leek for her but Huggies do...trial and error...

Actually, the leaking was how I knew to move them up a size. First time they crapped up their backs! Sorry, but it happens.

on the bag there is an age frame for the babies. if you think that it is too small, step up the size! I'm sure your baby is in good hands! Cute pics!
