i know physics is a kind of sacred language [in a way,] but how much latin, greek, hebrew, arabic or sanskrit has he studied? If zero, then how can he hope to dismiss sacred texts out of hand without studying them? Wouldln't that be the same as saying evolution is untrue without having read a science textbook?

good point Nick, but actually most believers are not out telling people what to think... at least most of them aren't...but richard dawkins is in a position of great authority and responsibility, so let's hope he gets his house in order and is not preaching atheism out of fear of the unknown i.e. the divine...

I also notice he becomes mildly hysterical when denying the existence of God. I wonder why?

I don't know how many he has studied, but why would you ask that of him? Why don't you question believers how many of the sacred languages they have studied, and, according to your logic, if they haven't studied any of them, ask them why they would possibly believe any sacred texts?

And memo to Chuckler, it's not good to base your statements on Youtube clips posted by fundies.

I hope he is not as well, and I highly doubt he is. He spends a vast majority of his time explaining aspects of science and giving lectures on his books. The only time he makes the news is when he is invited on as the representative atheist, so that's all most know of him.

Hey, if people can believe in the texts without being able to read them in the original (and still argue over which is the correct translation!), Dawkins is free not to believe in them without being able to read them in the original.
