my definition is -
I am only successful when I am following God's will for my life, as soon as I look to my own understanding, even if the world thinks what I am doing is successful, it is not. All the "good" that I seem to be doing will mean nothing to me, if God is not pleased with it,

Yes, good point. Today, more and more, people think success is the big paycheck (Enron), the big title or the big office (Worldcom), fame (American Idol) and glory (sports). And it's become very addictive to the point that even when "successful" people make it big, it's never enough, they want more and will cheat to get it. It's the downfall of many.

Success is living by and being true to Principle, the nature and laws of God. It builds character and integrity, the only thing we will take with us when we pass into eternity.

I love what Bobby Weir once said. He was a band member of the Grateful Dead, and once he was asked a very insulting question. When their album "In The Dark" won a Grammy, Weir was asked by a reporter how it was now that he was successful.

Never mind that by that point the Grateful Dead had sold tens of millions of albums and had dozens of recordings. That was the insulting bit, because they already had a huge fan base before "In The Dark" was ever released.

But Weir looked at him and said:

"Success is when you've bought yourself a bag of pistachios and you can throw away the ones with shells you can't open."

Obeying God

Every once in a while you have to eliminate your ego and look upon yourself.
If you do this, you'll find out that you're far more successful than you thought.
If you do not do this, you will find yourself on a track where happiness is replaced with moments of joy caused by egocentric behaviour. That's not the real thing.

Spending eternity in heaven. That is the ultimate measure of success as a human being because that's what human beings were created for. Failure to attain salvation is absolute failure as a human being.

I do not presume to know what the will of God is except to know that the buy-bull is nonsensical man made dogma.

Success is raising a child to be a kind responsible adult.

If I get a sense of accomplishment from it then I consider it successful.
I don't need God to be pleased with me in order to be considered successful. All I need is my own sense of accomplishment!

But....to each his own, right?
