If you work for the media, good news never sells. For the regular people, we all could use some good news for a change.
Although truth be told, I kinda like hearing about the second option too.

Spreading the good news is more positive and makes for better conversation. You spread the good news and bring hope and promise to those you are telling. Some people have nothing to smile about, feel hopeless, don't have much self esteem and even feel desperate. When you bring them the good news, you bring encouragement, fellowship and something for them to think about which might even change their lives. Bringing the good news also brings joy to the person giving it.
There are occasions when you have to bring some gruesome, bloody, unnerving news into the conversation and that is not a pleasant thing to do but, there are times when it is necessary.
I think that everyone who is capable of presenting the good news, should be doing it when they can. Life has openings for passing along necessary information if you are observant.
If you must bring the bad, gruesome and unnerving, it would be best to also offer the good news along with it.

This a profound question which should give us all a reason to ponder. An example of good news is the story of the risen Christ. An example of bad news is when some misguided soul blows himself up murdering other Innocent people.
The true God wants us to love, not murder.
