Yes, he has not won a race, I think with the way the chase format now is, his chances are slim unless he goes on a major winning streak....Kennseth won in 03 with only 1 win, and there were a couple drivers in the past with just one win and they won the championship...

Ned Jarrett only won one race when he won the championship in 1961. Benny Parsons only won one in 1973 when he won it all. Matt Kenseth was the most recent driver to win the Winston Cup with one win when he did it in 2003 and that is mostly the reason they went to the chase format used today. They wanted to keep drivers from riding around conservatively with a big points lead so NASCAR put a bigger premium and larger bonus on wins. His chances of winning the Nextel Cup Series are very slim to none. I really like him but he would be fortunate to finish any higher than 8th and I supsect he'l be in the bottom 3.

I don't think anyone's ever won the championship without winning a race. I don't think even if you run consistently in the last 10 races you can win the championship without at least one win. If you think about it, all 12 drivers are legitimate threats to win each week. I know Clint hasn't won yet, but he will win a race during his career. I think he'll probably win one during the Chase. However, being 60 points down to start is going to make it difficult to catch up and stay up.

That would be pretty cool if he didn't win a single race but because of the points, and being in the top tier everyweek versus win here or there and end up in 40th in some other races. GO CLINT!

He has a a million in 12 shot of adjusting into the Champ. He wasn't sandbagging for the period of the familiar season. that's merely that those in the back of him in factors have been too inconsistent to make the right 12.

Not that I know of. I congratulate Bowyer for making it to the chase, but I don't think he has what it takes to even be in the top 5.

I'm pretty sure that all previous champions have had at least one win.
He's a long shot to win the title, but stranger things have happened. :)
