I've known many fundamentalists who do that, but no Christians.
Fundies do that because their main concern is to force everybody they meet to bow to their opinions about God and the nature of religion.
Bud, you're 100% right: doing that only pushes people farther away from God, but that's a fact those fundies never seem to catch onto, for some reason.
A real Christian will not do that. He will love you where you are, listen to your point of view without judging you (Mat 7:1), and give advice only when you ask for it.

I think this is a generalization.
Is the "yelling at people and telling them they are going to hell" part really forcing their religion on others? Or is it just saying something you don't agree with?
I agree it is not a very good way to convert people and it is not the actual focus of Christianity. There are some out there that think it is and they are wrong.

When they do they are in error. When they do it shows they have not at all mastered Jesus' teachings. When they do it is an indicator they have room for improvement. When they do they reveal that they are but immature spiritually.
1. A display of specialized skill does not signify possession of spiritual capacity. Cleverness is not a substitute for true character.
2. Few persons live up to the faith which they really have. Unreasoned fear is a master intellectual fraud practiced upon the evolving mortal soul.
3. Inherent capacities cannot be exceeded; a pint can never hold a quart. The spirit concept cannot be mechanically forced into the material memory mold.
4. Few mortals ever dare to draw anything like the sum of personality credits established by the combined ministries of nature and grace. The majority of impoverished souls are truly rich, but they refuse to believe it.
5. Difficulties may challenge mediocrity and defeat the fearful, but they only stimulate the true children of the Most Highs.
6. To enjoy privilege without abuse, to have liberty without license, to possess power and steadfastly refuse to use it for self-aggrandizement--these are the marks of high civilization.
7. Blind and unforeseen accidents do not occur in the cosmos. Neither do the celestial beings assist the lower being who refuses to act upon his light of truth.
8. Effort does not always produce joy, but there is no happiness without intelligent effort.
9. Action achieves strength; moderation eventuates in charm.
10. Righteousness strikes the harmony chords of truth, and the melody vibrates throughout the cosmos, even to the recognition of the Infinite.
11. The weak indulge in resolutions, but the strong act. Life is but a day's work--do it well. The act is ours; the consequences God's.
12. The greatest affliction of the cosmos is never to have been afflicted. Mortals only learn wisdom by experiencing tribulation.
13. Stars are best discerned from the lonely isolation of experiential depths, not from the illuminated and ecstatic mountain tops.
14. Whet the appetites of your associates for truth; give advice only when it is asked for.

You are definitely right. I am a Christian myself and most of the time its like that. But most Christians dont look at themselves because some are going to hell in a handbasket and they dont even know. I think they get caught up in Jesus coming back and getting people ready and numbers in Christianity then they do with really winning the heart of people and making sure people have a pure heart for God and the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Also making sure people understand who God is in all facets of His word, not just focusing on the sin that so easily besets us from God. Let Him work it out.

When I was an atheist, the christians did not bother me, it was the mormons, who I consider to be a cult and not christian at all, so I am not sure why you are being plagued by christians. I never was, I had christians praying for me, but never yelling at me or chasing me with holy water, so I am not sure why this is happening to you. I was free as an atheist, just like I feel free as a christian, so I am not sure why you feel so persecuted. As a mormon, I was brainwashed, mind controled and indoctrinated. I guess you should try the dark side of brainwashing to really see how free you are (the dark side of mormonism) .

Not sure what Christians you're talking about. Don't you know that 97% of America is Christian, yet a lot of them smoke, drink, swear, and whatever? The other 3% are probably the only ones who are true Believers in God. A lot of atheists and non-believers go under the name "Christian."
Edit:
A true Christian does not force belief and faith. Their job is tell God's word and not force it. God's job is to turn a person's heart to believe in Him. People don't have that power.

I don't know which Christian is doing that but I doubt they are Christian. Or maybe they are just very worried about you and some people only listen when they are yelled at. Personally, I live by example. Not too good at it but I'm not perfect and God knows that.

It doesn't happen. if it does then the Christian must have a mental problem. But all beliefs or non beliefs have their wierdos. athiest have them. muslims have them, buddhist have them. jews have them. Why do the weirdos in Christianity get singled out? Because we are the big one, thats why. O wait.. why go into this you're just some idiot kid sitting in their bedroom crying cause you have no friends lol lol

Because some idiots/bigots think that they know what is best for everyone, the christian bigots even try to get immunity from hate speech laws so that they can continue to spout thier hatred and bigotry

It the idiots that call themselves Christians that ruin it for everyone else like me who really take our faith seriously. What ever happened to accept people for who they are not what they do? What happened to god loves everyone no matter what the circumstance? don't think everyone is this way because you've had bad experiences with more than one "Christian". There are actually Christians out there that won't judge you and are really there to love you.
