just put 3 doggie treats in your pocket and only give him 2.
(Oh come on. Lighten up for a second. It's good for you.)

they can't count as well as Alex the parrot can (PBUH)
WALTHAM, Mass. | Alex, a parrot who could count to six, identify colors, and even express frustration with repetitive scientific trials, has died after 30 years helping researchers understand the avian brain.
The cause of Alex’s death was unknown. The African Grey parrot’s average life span is 50 years, Brandeis University scientist Irene Pepperberg said.
Pepperberg bought Alex from an animal shop in 1973. The parrot learned enough English to identify 50 different objects, seven colors, and five shapes.
edit: this article didn't actually say how high he could count, but it's up to 6, including 0

And then pretend to throw the other one across the room. Trust me, the dog will think you have four of them. They just aren't that good with large numbers.

My dogs can count, and tell the time!!
They always get 2 biscuits at night, and one of my dogs waits till she has both before eating either.
And they get me up at 7am every morning, and come to find me at 6pm every night for their meals.
