You pick the infant up in your arms and you say(I learned this from an old Pastor of mine) "My! Now that's a BABY!" And you act all excited and you don't have to lie because it is a baby. You can add things like "Wow! Look at that hair ...or aww look at the little toes.
Every one will think you are a great guy.

No, don't be so brutally honest when it comes to a newborn baby. Every single child is beautiful in the eyes of the new parents.
If you have nothing to praise, just lied (a white lie) and simply say YES. BTW, I have seen many babies who are not adorable at birth that grows up to be pretty young things later.

Lie, Lie, and Lie again! Tell your sister in-law that it's the cutest thing you've ever seen.
Are you planning on having kids? Cause if you are, you should have considered the gene pool you married into.....I'm just sayin!
Let me remind you that when a woman carries a baby for 9 months, she beleives that once she gives birth that it is the most beautiful creature EVER! Mommas don't see what everyone else may or may not see.

There are always a few select situations where lying is acceptable. This is one of them. But keep in mind, once you say he/she is adorable you're stuck with it. Don't be caught saying how not cute the baby is or there will be hell to pay.

Etiquette demands that you either complacently agree with the statement (isn't s/he adorable?). Just say, "yes," and you'll alleviate any societal discomfort. Sometimes a little white lie is better than angering your in-laws.

By nature, I am a polite type person and this is one of those situations that I absolutely hate wherein I am FORCED to be polite. I hate that! So, I swallow hard and lie like h*ll.

You NEVER call a baby ugly, even if you think it is.
You just say "awwwh what a precious little bundle" "He/She look exactly like you". Keep it short and simple.
