What are the main reasons?
I would say lack of proper training for the task at hand.
g-day!

" Let him without sin cast the first stone"
There is enough blame to go around. Save your frustration for the ballot box. Remember most Democrats supported going to war as well without a plan for winning the peace
It is always easiest to blame the current administration. The truth is the other side doesn't have the answers either, except to retreat and give up.
Calling each other names only agitates it doesn't resolve anything.

Because the Democrats block every chance the Republicans do to try to make it work....
Example... A republican goes to grab a pencil to write something down, but no pencil.. Why??? Because democrats stopped the shipment of pencils to his office...
Same thing happens on the hill all the time... General Petraeus had a report to give, and the Democrats rejected his report before it was even given....
So you ask what the main reason is for the mishandling of the war???? To find the answer, look at how ALL politicians are doing their jobs. Or I should say, Lack of doing their jobs....

Oh please...why don't you people just shut up.
No one party has enough control to make all of the decisions. We have a system of "checks and balances" and elections to ensure this.
Regardless of who YOU voted for, American government is determined "by the people", not just those on the far right or left.
And no one group is powerful enough to determine an election, so the Christian hater who posted earlier can give up that thought.

This is nothing more than an anti-Republican rant; DemocRATS have demonstrated how well they defend this nation in War and in Peace since 1965. The DemocRATS and anti-Vietnam War movement forced an end to the war. As a result several million additional people in Southeast Asia died as the peace loving people of North Vietnam continued their military operations. Are you going to accept ownership of the millions who will die if you force us to quick the Iraq mission?? It is people like you that ticks Republicans off....

Don't just blame republicans. Let us put the blame where it belongs. With our voting or lack of. calling our Representative or not.

The biggest problem is that Bush Jr. was raised in a culture of friendship and personal loyalty. He has chosen and retained advisers based on this instead of competence and performance. When it came to a choice between Rummy and the people he did not know at the pentagon - he picked good old Rummy every time. We have got to start picking leader who understand leadership.

I would have to say the biggest problem in having to fight a war with one hand tied behind your back.
The Democrats have done every thing in their power to impede the progress. We need to stay united on this issue. One line from the "Untouchables", They put one of our guys in the hospital, we put 10 of theirs in the grave. (I paraphrase).
As for this being a Extreme rights legacy, guess what, it's yours too if you are and American.

Ill put the blame where it belongs. The religious right and the red necks who voted for these Neocons, not because they understood what the gustopo was up to, but because they were afraid some gays might get married and live next door to them.. That they couldn't force everyone's children to say Christian prayers in school... and that the democrats might raise their taxes.. Of course the most wealthy were the benefits of that thinking.
You have to keep in mind the mentality at the time.. Red Neckl Am radio with oxycotton limbaugh and Fox News commanded by a Nazi billionaire was pushing the impeachment of Clinton because he got a bj in the oval office... This is all the result of narrow-minded, hypocritical and immoral christian thinking and dum redneck flag waving...
