As you can plainly see from my last post http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070914071327AAFYqr1&r=w there is no agreement between Christians regarding that particular point of doctrine.
Is this a major sticking point for various Christians, or are other points of doctrine more important to you?

Nope, we can't agree because there is no biblical basis for either argument.

I don't see it as a major sticking point. All we can do when something isn't mentioned in the Bible is make our best guess.

There may be disagreement between some people because they rely on their own opinions rather than what the word of God teaches them. The only person on your prior post who offered at least one of the scriptures that can be applied to this question was Evan B, and of course he was given thumbs down. Psalm 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies. Rom 3:10-13 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips. 2Cor 5:10 For we must ALL appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.( Things done in the body meaning if they are saved or not) Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? No one gets a free pass, that would constitute an unjust application of the law of God. Rom 3:23 For ALL have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. God is not a respecter of persons(Acts 10:34) man, woman or child.

Adoptive Father; All Christians do agree on those issues you have listed, because all true Christians adhere to the teachings set forth in the word of God. The only time there is disagreement is when people look to another authority for spiritual guidance, such as the Catholic Church, forbidding church leaders to marry contrary to the Word of God.

Whether Christians agree or not, the Bible clearly teaches that since the sin of Adam, a nature corrupted by Adam's sin has been transmitted to all mankind from conception, Jesus Christ being the only exception.

Psalm 51:5
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me.

Psalm 14:1-3
The fool has said in his heart,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.

Jer. 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things
and desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

Genesis 6:5
Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

In a way, you are right, Christians do not agree on this. Please keep in mind that Christianity includes tens of thousands of denominations. In addition, there is an untold number of "non-denominational" churches. All of these denominations are slightly different, hence the disagreement. Christians also do not agree on whether clergy can be married or not, if communion is literal or symbolic or even necessary, if the sabbath is Saturday or Sunday etc. etc.

I can give you Catholic answers, but that is not exactly what you asked.

Jack, Christians can't even agree on whether i-phones are cool or not. One of the beauties of Christianity is that it mirrors most family units - there is no agreement on anything, and the love is shown through bickering.

Bicker, bicker, bicker

Anyone who does not have the chance to receive the gospel is automatically called up. Anyone who does not have the free-will to choose, or the ability to choose within their discerning heart.... etc...
